Connection Speed 2304 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 53.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 6.7 db 23.0 db

Thats what im getting on karoo atm and they keep killing off my connection speed to boost my noise margin. Where do I stand in terms of im paying £29.99 for their top package whereas im getting speeds of there basic (lol)?

Anything I can do to improve the line? Lived in a brand new house for just over a year and its always never been great but lately its just getting lower and lower (started at about 19db and now I barely hit 7db :S)

Have 2 sky boxes connected although they dont need to be (outside of the 1 year contract) and theres 3 telephone sockets coming from the master socket (in the hallway) which are all extensions.

Ideas?

ps changed router numerous times, same with pcs, microfilters and rewired sockets and its still no use lol

Done that before and it made no difference. Also disconected the faceplate and connected directly into the karoo line itself and still the same. Very odd stuff

With an attenuation like that you are not going to get much faster than you already are.

You can try things like getting a filtered face plate on the phone socket or removing the ring wire (which it sounds like you already have), and check that other equipment is not interfering with the connection. But you dont really have any basis to complain to your ISP as it is advertised as “up to 8mb based on line length”.

Yeah im not complaining about the 'upto 8 meg' as I know exactly what that entails. Just baffled that the line noise just gets worse and worse, especially over the last 4/5 months. Also the reason I ask is to go onto one of the lower broadband packages to save myself a little cash seen as my £29.99 isnt actually be used how it should be at the moment as I cannot benefit the better speeds. At the last house I was on the same package and connected at 7mbps and had vastly faster download speeds and now Im recieving speeds which indicate a lower package anyway.

Would I be wrong in asking for a regrade on our package? Pretty sure we are out of the 12 months contract anyway but not certain, will have to ring them in the new year.

btw...if you pay a Sky subscription and your Sky boxes part of a Sky Multiroom package ie get the main subscription on the 2nd box for £10 a month then you need both telephone lines connected at all times.

Just noticed you said the line loss has been getting worse....has the attenuation gone up significantly more in the past few months? If so, maybe the wire somewhere along the line, be it either the dropwire/or underground feed to your house, or further back in the network, might be going faulty...

It could be something silly like the sheathing has cracked, letting moisture in, oxidising the copper, or if your overhead fed, it could be rubbing against a tree causing the wire to weaken and become high resistance, however, this is normally associated with noise on the line as well

If the attenuation has been getting worse and you have kepts records of what it was a few months ago then I can't see why you can't query/complain.
