So a bit of help .. D90 or D3100?

I'd start by telling use where the D40 is holding you back.

The D3100 is cheaper, high resolution and will autofocus while recording video.

The D90 is more substantial, will support AFD lenses, has better quality view finder and high resolution rear screen.

I'd personalty want to be stretching to the D90. The D3100 is really just an evolution of the D40 (although the 3100 is several generations newer), the D90 is however a higher end camera.

The D40 isnt really 'holding me back' as such, just have some spare cash available so thought its time to upgrade to something a bit more modern :)

Lens wise, i currently have:
VR Kit lens (Came with the D40) but never used.
35mm f/1.8
Nikon 55-200
Sigma 70-300
Tamron 17-50 f/2.8

Not held the D90 yet, but i did use a mates D300 for a few weeks :p its probably what inspired me to want a new body.

The D90 feels and is quite a bit smaller than a D300. I put a grip on mine as it just feels much better to hold being that bit bigger. So worth going in somewhere to hold one to see what you think.

How far off is the D90's replacement? Might be worth waiting to see what features it has before going for the D90.

Depends on the budget really.

The D90 'replacement' is the D7000, which has just been announced for pre-order at £1099.

In the end i got a D90 used with only 429 pictures taken + the 18-105 (Not that i'll use it but had to take it .. part of the package =/ ) for £565. Not bad :)
