What im saying is that it ISNT really needed for me, its no more faffing around than overclocking. Also "setting it to clock down too 1%" ? what you on about, speedstep isn't variable it just reduces the multiplier and voltage (slightly).
Surely you mean undervolting not underclocking?
Yeah thanks for that, the capitals really helped clear that one up.
I was referring to these options under power management.

Lowering the multiplier still counts as underclocking.
I was thinking this also, I'd always thought the fsb didn't make a huge difference to power consumption, less than undervolting anyway.
Sorry, i didn't mean to come across rude. I've never seen those power options before, where abouts are they hiding ? or is it a vista thing? Looks like intresting stuff imo, and i'll admit ignorance on this one.
I undervolted my Core Duo 1.66 laptop - dropped the load voltage from 1.2625v to 0.975v. It helps quite a bit with the battery.
Which app did you use to do this?
Because you can do both, and save more. Why not just enable Speedstep?
Because you can do both, and save more.
I just installed a new ASUS P5Q-Dlx last night which features a die-shrink on the northbridge and lower vCore settings for my 2MB Conroe chip, I will be testing its energy saving prowess soon so will report back if anything intersting happens.
