So cars are expensive now, huh? (Leasing)

What do people think of this deal?

I had a similar deal on my Cupra 300 Estate, 6+23 on £200 odd a month.

Not as great as the Passat Alltrack madness I had before it, unfortunately those days seem to be long gone

I got that exact Golf R Estate deal in April 2015. [Added Lapiz blue paint for a bit more per month]
Hard to believe it was that cheap now. You can probably just about get a Citroen C1 for the same cost now :/
I was checking out golf R's on autotrader the other day to see if they were cheap due to the market being flooded from those old lease deals. There are loads of them but they aren't particularly cheap!

Mine sold for £22k in October 2017, looks like they are going for about the same now.

Just had confirmation I can extend my Polestar 2 Pilot/Plus 350KW on business contract hire by 6 or 12 months.

Same monthly price as before, which is certainly more reasonable than if I were to get a similarly specced car on a new contract hire deal, even factoring in possibly changing 4x tyres at some stage.

Sadly that is still a rip off. They know you will take it as its so much cheaper than the equivalent one now. We have extended a few cars at work recently and they have all started out saying they will extend at the same rates but I have always pushed back on them and get them to come down a couple of £100 per month.

Still don't understand paying these sorts of numbers a month to drive a run of the mill SUV, and yes currently I could easily afford it.

It's an absurd amount of money to spend £30,000 to do up to 30,000 miles in someone elses car & then just hand it back, unless it's something special like a Ferrari lol

I'd want to be earning well beyond £200k before i'd entertain that, if you do then fair play I guess.

It's even worse then that, it will (like all personally owned cars) sit there doing nothing cluttering roads/driveways. I like a lease but I'm opting out at the prices being asked for now.

There is nothing particularly special about it, sure it's a nice car & quick, but quick doesn't equal special.

A typical SUV will have less than half the power and cost less than half as much new. Have you ever driven one?

At £800 a month i'd be wanting a V12 lol

This is just unreasonable. How much is the cheapest V12 car on the market? Probably not less than £200,000 now?

Power output is irrelevant, cost when new is also irrelevant, it's still £30k to drive someone elses car before you even put fuel in it, have I driven an BMW X5 xDrive45e M Sport Plug in Hybrid? No I have not. I've had a go in a Range Rover SVR though. Yes it's like driving a missile, it's also as dull as an old 2002 Grand Cherokee on normal roads & totally not worth the price tag, the interior is nicer though of course.

cost when new is also irrelevant

Of course it isn't - it's one of the major factors which determines how much it will cost to lease such a car.

If you purchased one yourself and it was your car, it would not be free to drive it. It would lose value, which is the cost of driving it. All of these various methods of having a car are just different ways of spending what usually amounts to a similar amount of money to be able to drive it. They are just different ways of funding the use of the car for the time you wish to have it - no way of doing this is free, not owning it yourself, nor using finance or leasing. I don't personally like leasing but it's not as if it wouldn't cost a significant amount of money to buy one for cash, use it for 3 years and then sell it, is it?

it's also as dull as an old 2002 Grand Cherokee on normal roads

I'm pretty sure it isn't.

But if you wanted a 2022 Grand Cherokee, you'll probably find that costs quite a lot of money as well.
