So Coffee Lake CPUs can run on modded z170/z270 motherboards.

Specifically the Z170M OCF, Z170 OCF and Z270 Apex have securities fixes with the modded bioses. Other boards if the modder choose to mod base on recent bios versions, they will just have security updates as normal.

Who wrote the BIOS though... I think I'd pass on a DIY BIOS.

For Asrock its the one who shall not be named :P

For Z270 apex, currently the common way is using Z370 apex bios and add new microcode, as well as add some mods to the board so it can be flashed with usb bios flashback. So the z270 can run with the latest Z370 apex 1602 bios with all the features.

dont think anyone from outside can write a proper bios from nothing, and if you understand the modding process its rather simple, basically just figure out the way to add new microcode and making the board accept "unofficial" bios.

I am looking for Version 1602 or the latest 1704

Actually the guy who made bioses for both these boards (Dsanke) said he could not upload attachements there himself. Which is why other people had to do it for him. Presumbably for the same reasons.
