As above really. in a residential area.

Somebody has just fired up a Chainsaw/Leaf blower/whatever.

Now, for me 07:45 on a Saturday morning is too early and rather antisocial.

I dont know if there are any "Rules" about this sort of thing regarding residential areas. But personally, at weekends, I would think that anything like this before 09:00 is not on. (perhaps 08:00 weekdays.)

What say you?

8 I would think, possibly 9 for the weekend, but not as a hard and fast rule. If you've got jobs to do and it's a one off that is time sensitive (ie make the most of daylight and good weather) then you've got to do it when you can.
Think building work or whatever.

Personally it annoys me hearing power tools in the early hours, but I appreciate that some jobs need doing.
Something like mowing the lawn or leaf blowing that can be done anytime, weather permitting, should be kept to after 9am at weekends imho.

Unless I'm having a rare lie in. Then work should commence at whatever time I decide to get up and no sooner.

Listening to the birds non stop at the crack of dawn is just as annoying given the volume of them in my area. Birbs will be birbs i guess. Until my fluffy little apex predator catches them anyway :D

Before 9 at the weekend and 8 on a weekday for me would be unreasonable. If there was a an urgent need in an emergency, burst pipes etc, I would forgive but not for cutting the damn lawn or clearing the garden of leaves.

It's another one of those things where councils are left to sort it but don't want to do anything about it.

Each council round here has different guidance on times too.

You people are crazy, I tend to try and not use power tools before 8 as otherwise its just wasting time. 8 is late on a weekend for me anyway, the kids normally wake me up at 6:p.

6.00am according to my ex neighbour -wacker plate -- He said noise is what we do and he wasn't kidding - noisiest neighbours we had in 45 years -- Never hear ones we have now even with two kids.

Our previous council has a webpage which has construction noise times on it (used to be for DIY as well but has since changed):

  • Monday to Friday - 8am to 6pm
  • Saturday - 9am to 1pm
  • Sunday and Bank Holidays - no work
9am seems reasonable, maybe earlier if it's not all the time but I am usually up and about by then.

I wish that Sunday and Bank Holidays no work included petrol mowers & petrol hedge cutters :(

Them loud noisy things should be banned from being able to use on a weekend

I was using a paddle mixer at 8am one bank holiday not long after moving in, pretty sure my neighbours hated me for it. But it was a one off and had to be done!

9.35 am, just about to start my bagpipes up. Sorry (not sorry) neighbours, who like drilling and hammering walls at 11pm..

I don't think 8am is too unreasonable in all honesty. 9am might be a bit more considerate for a weekend but i probably wouldn't be too annoyed.

If they were doing loud DIY between 10pm-6am or something then that probably would wind me up.

Maybe this is because i am on a new build estate that they still haven't finished so 8am start for building noise is the norm at the moment, even on a Saturday :p

I think the sunday/bank holiday no work whatsoever seems a bit harsh. A long weekend might be the only time some people will have to do DIY projects.

Edit: ah just re-read your part in brackets. I guess a lot of people complained that with those rules you'd only have a few hours on a weekend to actually do any DIY.

yeh, that seems pretty unreasonable to not allow people to DIY on a Sunday! many people might only have that day to get stuff done.
