So I emailed EVGA...

Had an idea this morning.

Given that my Radeon crashes if I let my PC go to sleep and then wake it (hitting space or pressing the power button) I came up with an idea.

If EVGA EU send me a GTX 590 I will take the 7970 out of my computer (filming as I go) then take it down to the garden before cutting it in half with a jigsaw fitted with a HSS blade and then smash it into pieces using a very large hammer.

We shall see if they reply :D

I suspect they'll say no...

Me too, but hell yeah I'm ready !

Don't put your system to sleep and switch it off?

Also what are you going to do when SLI gives you issues?

The problem with that is I run a RAID bios on my motherboard. Unlike other motherboards you can not disable it and run the board in IDE mode. Thus, start up is slow, as it is reading the drives and checking/building the arrays.

So even though I use a very good SSD start up is still slow.

I am a smoker and I do not smoke inside my house. Going down, rolling up a cig and then going outside and smoking it takes me about 15 minutes. I smoke about ten a day, that's a couple of hours I would rather not be paying for electricity or doing slow boots.

I've put three drivers on the card now and all of them are the same. When my PC wakes it either garbles the display, or, the bottom half of my desktop becomes a black hole. If I move anything down there it disappears.

So, I resorted to changing the resolution, then changing it back, then refreshing the screen. That seemed to work, but after a while got on my nerves so I just disabled sleep and put on a screen saver (fat lot of good that does).

I'm less than pleased with AMD's drivers, let's put it that way.

erm, so you want a company to send you an end of life card they don't make anymore as a freebie because you gave lots of money to another company (a competitor)

yeah I can see them going for that...

That's one way of looking at it.

Then there is the other way.

The card itself is an XFX. The same one that starred in the video they made.

It would create a lot of publicity, both for EVGA and OCUK of course.

And it's hardly a freebie when I take a set of power tools to a card I spent £440 on is it?

You smoke yet complain about the price to run your system for a few minutes? Why not stop smoking?

Because I can't. It's really as simple as that.

Well, at the risk of sounding mean.... grow up?

OK, so you aren't happy with your current card.

Perhaps there is something wrong with it, which can be verified by sticking it in another computer.

If nothing wrong with the card and it's definitely drivers, then sell it and get something else, unless you are in 7 day cool-off in which case, send it back.

Or, if you haven't tried it yet, do a clean install of windows?

Tried all of the above. It's drivers, for certain. Infact it's a wake issue that I would imagine rests with AMD's "Zero core". When stepping down it can't come back on without issues.

As for growing up? it's a bit of fun. Just because I have many grey hairs doesn't mean I have lost my sense of humour !

Hahahahhahaha! They'll say no I tihnk. But you should Youtube it if it happens.

That is exactly where I intend to take it. Hell, I might even get myself one of those stupid outfits they used in the XFX video. A really tight green one. Mind you, that would risk me looking like Mr Methane, and I've seen the sparks that come from cutting with a HSS :D

haha I burnt a hole through a set of Dickie's once when I underestimated the sparks coming from the sub floor of my car :D

Indeed.

Nice part is I just ordered a new workbench and some of those fancy squeezy clamps. So it would make the perfect operating table....

Sadly it shall not come to pass that numerous AMD cards take part in a slaughter fest.

Good old health and safety :(

Ah well, ever onward and upwards !
