Smooth them? Before I painted the side strips, I just gave them a quick sanding to make the surface coarse, an even coating of primer and then have been adding a layer of matt black paint, sanding between each coat.

When I do the bumpers, I'll spend more time preparing the surface and will try charcoal. Chances are the side strips will flake... so the perfect excuse to do them again. At least I'll be able to see which colour I prefer.

Looks much much better mate, what a difference a nice set of rims can make :) Definately made the right choice going OEM, aftermarket wheels on cars like these just look *****, wheras yours just looks like a very smart example.
