Currently clocked at 965Mhz (was 850) and 1050Mhz (was 975), which is where ive hit a wall.

Basically im just wondering if it is possible to install the BIOS from an XFX Black edition 4890? which is already clocked higher, without ruining my card.

If it is possible, how would I go about it please?

Cheers

If your card can't run at those speeds, I dont see why it would with a different bios. Surely they pick the best cards to be the black edition ones and yours isn't up to it?

The Black Editions are speed binned, so you'll be very lucky to clock your standard card to the same speeds. A bios won't change that.

The clocks on these seem to be very random. My core won't go much over 900 even if I start pushing up the voltage, but the memory went to 1150 without a hitch.

Hiya's,
I just got my first 4890 it's the XFX 4890 XT

Just ran a few quick clocks :)

Up to 985 core and 1000 mem, she runs on stock bios settings :)

Upped core to 995 and it failed after a while

Whacked fan from stock to 100% and tested fine at 995/1000

It's scorching in the room as well lol

Seems i landed lucky again card-wise

Gonna try 1k/1k on 100% fan and see what happens

(from initial findings this card obviously seems hampered by lack of cooling)

Anyways i have no doubt with better cooling (water ;) ) these 4890's will go like the clappers lol

Thought i'd share my settings as it may help

EDIT : Nice card, 1k/1k i'm lovin it

Fisha,
Back OT

If you hang on i'll post how to flash and mod the bios later, but really i wouldn't recommend bios flashing until you know you're stable with settings you want to flash

I have a collection of high end 4890 bios's that i will thoroughly check through later

Differing 3d voltages and strats for cooling so i might find a happy medium and mod the XFX BE bios with default volts and a better cooling strat

I really think in the short time i tried this card (2hrs ago i thinks i got it) it's down to cooling problems on my card not voltage, though obviously it's a quick guess but it makes sense, though with this said others might have cooling that's fine but need more voltage

Anyways i gotta shove off, will try and post howto etc later
