Nasty! That reminds me of a laugh we had a few years back in Newcastle. A guy came wandering out of the bank with a wad of notes in his hand, you know, waving it around and generally showing off to his mates.

He wasn't so jovial when he tripped up and the wind took them down the street.

Last year I cashed in about £150 worth of 1p, 2p and 5p coins. Took me about 2 hours to count it all.

It's well worth the 2% fee just to sit there watching the machine clunking and whirring away while it eats your pile of coins in its top bit. It's a pitty the front isn't transparent so you can watch it count them all. Maybe I'm just weird.

You can buy coin soring machines for £10-£20. Does anyone know if they are any good as I have a few Kg's of change that needs to be sorted.

If you have a HSBC account then some branches have those coin machines to pay straight into your bank account. I use the one at the newcastle branch all the time and it doesn't cost a penny

Most banks/post offices dont like you paying in coins, takes up to much time, I always use a coinstar,

nope. one in yate.

it's all new, you can deff pay notes in instantly by machines and cheques are now scanned into the machine as well, pretty sure the machine does coins as well.

There's one in my local Tesco now, dunno if it charges anything extra, will go there when I got more change in my box. They were very convenient when I was in the US to put my tips in every week, the bank one didn't charge anything extra.

ones in Tesco, Sainburys, Asda ect are all Coinstar and charge 7.5p per pound, still much better than sorting it yourself. As you're always left with loads left over.

But I'm pretty sure refitted HSBC banks have coin ones in now which don't charge anything and go directly into your account.
