So I take a Honda 1.6 Sport for a test drive and as I pull out...

Just my 2 cents here, but it does seem that most of the "slaters" in this forum drive BMW's

And they're not the greatest cars in the world

Given that nobody is 'slating' his choice of car, merely the amount spent, what exactly has that got to do with the price of fish :p

Well i've never driven a Civic, but I like the styling of the older ones, as opposed to the new one.

If he's paid £9k for it - ok - it's a new car for him and i'm sure he'll enjoy it.

All I'm saying is from what i've gathered with BMW owners is that they generally don't accept that other cars might be worth more than they'd imagine, as most BMW owners are up their own *****

My mate Matt being a prime example, now he's bought one he reckons he knows everything, all other cars are crap, and not worth what they paid for them (I know this isn't the case for ALL, but a lot of BM owners)

Where did THAT come from? I didn't say the car he bought isn't worth the money, I said it was a silly amount to spend on such a car. If I had said LOL £9k on a Civic? MORON LOL GET A BMW you would be entirely justified.

However, what did I suggest would have been a better alternative? Ah yes, a marginally older Honda Civic of the exact same shape. Well that just smacks of me thinking my car is better than everyone elses doesnt it...

Probably still a Civic if thats what he likes (Everyone likes different cars) but there is absolutely no need to spend £9k on a 1.6 Civic. That shape of Civic has been out for almost 6 years, there are many examples to select from just £5k.

I can see what your saying, but its a honda at the end of the day and holds it value well. The reason for this is because its the best car manufacturer out there...

£9k on a newish Civic 1.6 may not be the most optimal purchase, but it's not exactly bad. I can think of many other ways of wasting 9k!

Could have gone out and bought a brand new 1.2 corsa lol

I wish people on here would stop wasting vast amounts of cash on purchases they don't bother to think through, one day it would be nice to be able to come into a thread to find somebody has paid a decent price for a decent car and be able to say 'Congrats mate, you did well'

How boring would a forum be consisting entirely of threads saying..

'I got a new car, its an XYZ I paid £'

'Great mate'

'I like'

'Very nice'

'Lovely'

Predictable, dull, and not discussion worthy.

Make up your mind Fox!!! ;) :D

They make some of the best engines maybe but the rest isnt always so good

Wow what a fun thread this turned out to be. :D

I live in Jersey so choice is a little limited. I can't just drive 100 miles and go get one ;) There are few garages over here selling 2nd hand cars that you'd want to buy from. MOT doesn't exist over here either. 40 MPH is our speed limit as well. :(

If there had been an immaculate 1.6 sport 2003 at 6k I'd have probably bought that.

Is 9k a lot for a 2005 10k clocked 1.6 sport? I did lots of searches and found them ranging from 11.5 - 9.

For example...

http://cars.yahoo.co.uk/resultsmini_100354123_15814441#100354123-4B16C999D41F26A2759297270D2D14FE

I was sold on an Alpha 147 for 6 k but that has a dodgy gearbox and was backed up by a garage of monkeys.

Thanks for making me feel good about my purchase ;)
