To cut a long story short me and my brother had a scuffle with one of his old friends who was drunk and walked round to our house to settle things last night. Highlight was deffo my bro getting his boxers ripped off mid action lol.
But anyway he comes back 45 mins afterwards and as soon as I heard the smash followed by running footsteps I knew what had happened.

I'm so furious I'm still shaking. I dunno what he used but at a guess it looks like a Carling pint glass filled with stones - in the 2nd pic you can just about make out the R etched into the glass. Theres loads of glass on the floor but it's not off the car. So anyway, am I still cool to drive this until I get it replaced or will I get pulled by the police if they see it? Can anyone recommend a service for the job?

Yeah I have fully comp. How long is this gonna take? Obviously I need to drive to work tomorrow. There might be fingerprints but lets face it, theres worse things in the world than a broken windscreen so I was just gonna leave it.

In that state if you drive over any bumps then the whole windscreen will likely shatter and fly back in your face if driving at speed. I would strongly suggest not driving it.

lolwhat?

That looks like the outer surface is done for, but the inner one is ok, the windscreen will not explode.

OP, give the insurance company a bell, see what they can do. I had to wait a day for them to do mine...but then I was ~40 miles from the car when I booked it as I was at work (having used the train) so arranged it to be sorted on a Sat. :)

From the look of the picture I thought the windscreen had pushed inwards as well as cracked. If the cracks can be felt from the inside of the screen I would think that the integrity of the screen would be compromised.

If it is ok you'll still probably get a tug from the police if they see.

I wouldn't drive with it like that mind, it is in the field of vision and will get you pulled I expect.

Only reason I drove with a fairly large one in my screen is it happened shortly after I picked the car up and I wasn't home yet. :p

Whilst the windscreen won't explode it certainly isn't legal to drive. Lets use some common sense.

Ring the 'old' friend and give him the opportunity to pay for the windscreen if he refuses call the local police station and report the crime, like someone said there may be a possibility of getting fingerprints off that glass.

Then ring a windscreen company like Autoglass, when I have had a windscreen damaged that is undriveable they have always been there the same day sometimes within a couple of hours.

Just got off the phone with Autoglass, they can't sort it until tomorrow afternoon. They also said based on my description that it shouldnt shatter inwards, and if I can still see other drivers through it then it's still legal - I'll check this out in a bit. £75 quid excess plus half a day of lost wages, pain in the arse.

£75 is nothing though. I had either that or £300 for my screen from autoglass...I took the insurance route. :p

Half the screen is obscured and the cracks run into the driver's half of the screen, so it won't be legal or safe to drive.

Coupled with the fact that the screen was damaged when stationary says to me that the cracks could well spread when the car is running and in motion, which will make it worse. ;)

Palmy, what's the point? The police won't care too much and if he has windscreen cover on his insurance it doesn't matter anyway as it's a cheap replacement (well, insurance covers the main cost).

The point is that whilst its one of lifes unfortunate events, his insurance will increase next year and he is left to pay an insurance excess.

Its up to him, I suspect I would most likely not involve the police especially given that there was a 'scuffle' earlier in the evening and more to this story. However its likely that there are fingerprints on the glass and worth pursuing if there if the incident really was a clear cut.

They said it won't affect my premium so that's alright.

I'm not gonna call the police, they came round last night after the scuffle because the guy was totally freaking out so we pinned him to the floor while my sis called them and he was cut up quite badly, not through us hitting him (we didn't hit him), but more from him squirming around on the floor trying to get us off him. In true chav fashion he took his t-shirt off while beckoning my brother out to show how badass he was so he's probably stinging now from all the topless rolling around he did on the driveway, you guys would have loved it if there was a video! They took him home and sided with us but obviously as soon as they left him he came straight back.

So then, how long before this psycho comes back and smashes your new windscreen then.. :/

This, it's crossing the line, if he's gonna cause criminal damage he can bloody well pay for it himself. *people heal, cars don't* however illogical that is, it's true!
