Can anyone give me any tips, preferably a dummies guide on how to shoot HDR? I've seen lots of pics lately and really want to give it a go.

Only problem is from what I hear, my camera will struggle with it as it doesn't have bracketing? I'm not really sure what this means so don't know if it's essential or just useful?

Will be using my D3100.

Thanks :)

doesnt the cam have a setting for it?
my D5100 does, havent tried it yet though

Set your shot up. And take a series of the same shot but at something like

-2
-1
0
+1
+2
Exposure.

Then run it through a HDR program.

I think thats it in its simplest form.

think you need something like Photomatix to merge the images together? might be wrong, and i'm not too sure if merging all the layers together would work too well in Photoshop :S

just remember to try and keep it as natural looking as you can, some of the overcooked shots you can see on the interweb look awful !

All you need is at least three shots (from a tripod, exactly the same shot), at different exposures. Eg, one normal, one 2 stops under, one 2 stops over exposed. Use the automate hdr pro function in CS5, or another hdr program, to combine the shots. Then play around with the sliders to get a feel for what they do. Bracketing does make it easier to get the shots without moving the camera though.
