I won an iPad 2 in an Autotrader competition and it's just arrived today.

I'm an Android fanboy and I dislike Apple's products/ethos. However I don't want to cut off my nose to spite my face and seeing as I haven't given any money to Apple I wouldn't feel as bad for keeping it.

But I could just sell it BNIB/sealed and get a Galaxy or Transformer instead.

Pros:
- Financially sensible (I couldn't sell it for its RRP, and it will hold its value)
- Looks attractive for business use at exhibitions and everyone knows what it is
- No idea of any others as I've never used iOS before

Cons:
- Everything through iTunes
- No Mass Storage Device for storing/moving files
- No Swype or Swype alternative (this is a massive downfall for me)
- Not as customisable as Android

Am I missing anything? As I've never used iOS before I can't really compare properly, but I don't want to open the box and use it as that'll probably strip £30+ off the resale instantly.

PS. In before the 'Worst I just won an iPad thread ever' ;)

Were you thinking of buying one previously: No, then why keep it? money is hard to come by at the moment so why not sell it now and make a few quid before the next incarnation appears.

I will sell it and keep the money in the bank until the next gen of pads arrive. You have a Touchpad haven't you? That should keep you entertained for the next few months!

Swype type keyboards are a huge pain in the arse on tablets from my experience, I honestly wouldn't worry about that (think how large the trace route is). If you've committed to one OS for now with brought stuff and the like then there's no real harm in just selling this and funding either a next gen handset/tablet/bike/car repairs/strippers/blow.

Edit ^^ we think alike :) Seriously, the swype clone ASUS do is crap.

Yeah if you didn't want a tablet in the first place there's no reason to keep it, especially if you're already invested in Android. Well, apart from the excitement factor of having a new toy of course, that's a valid reason, but it is a £500 reason? ;) :p Plus, there'll be a wealth of good tablets at less than half the price of an iPad within the next year or so, and at that money you'll be able to justify getting one even if you don't really "need" it! ;)

Yes. Have two big exhibitions at the end of this month that I'd like to use it/another one for.

Yeah, but I need something that's the next step up for work and I can't wait for Android. The girlfriend will be getting the TouchPad as she's in no rush. Having the TP however has at least proved to myself how much I'll use a tablet.

I couldn't imagine Swype being any good on an iPad or any large screened tablet. I found my DHD too big for it!

I use Swype on my DHD daily and I couldn't cope without it now. Typing in a tablet normally is far far slower.

The next generations aren't an option as I need one for the end of the month.

It's the best tablet, so yes, you should keep it. :)

If you really don't like it (even as an Android fanboy, I think you will), you can still sell it and buy a 10.1 with very little hassle/outlay.

Then keep it, from what I have read Honeycomb is not that great.

Just to add to this then, as you've never used iOS before -

- Excellent app store, the best available by far. The quality of the iPad tablet apps is simply untouchable at present.
- Fast, stable, slick and smooth OS operation, but no widgets and 'fancy' things like that
- Superb email client that I prefer to any other I've tried
- The best battery life (if not by much, discounting the transformer + dock)
- The best and most professional looking, as you said
- Will let you Facetime people with an iPhone 4/iPad 2/Mac, etc, that could be useful in future
- iOS 5 is out in a month or so which will improve it further still

I'd sell the iPad :)

I've got an iPad1 and a Touchpad and the only reason I've not sold the iPad is the fact that the Touchpad is "dead" and lacks any form of expansion. The Touchpad caters to all my browsing/email/multimedia needs while the iPad has camera/HDMI connection.

When I get my **** into gear I'll be looking to see which tablet could replace both (The iPad ecosystem drives me up the wall*)

*purely personal opinion ;)

Lucky ****** ... drools with envy! :D

Unless of course, you had to do something really clever to win it.

Most so called 'competitions' these days are usually along the lines of: "Is the third letter of the alphabet B, C or D?" :)
