So I'm utterly broke and my PSU is dying

They're miles better than the Q-Tec and no-name stuff of years ago, and if you got the 500w and placed it in a basic PC which only draws about 150w then it would be fine for ages, it's just that a too few many corners are cut and if you try and pull the rated wattage it will go pop.

Ah, the old Q-Tec !

Yes you're right, if a budget PSU is only lightly loaded compared to its rating, it will probably be OK.

I went for the bequiet pure power 11 500w in the end. Should be arriving later and it'll be a relief to get it installed after the racket my superflower has been making the last few weeks.

If it's DOA, I might just cry. :p

Like I said in a previous post OCUK's parent company is pushing these Kolink psu's so OCUK get them for next to nothing. We have had several threads where a pre-built pc has been delivered with a crap Kolink psu installed only for it to not start up or fail within a few days. The early ones such as the Core and KL series are barely a step up from a cheap and nasty £20 no name psu from Ebay. That Kolink Core series 500w in the link that you posted only has a pathetic 396w on it's 12v rail and has a recommendation on it not to exceed 400w total power. If you bought it seperately it would have a 1 year warranty. I would like to say that I am shocked that they would stick such a poor quality psu in that build but I am not. They get a psu for next to nothing, use them in their budget builds and maximise profit.
The Enclave series seems somewhat better, with solid caps and Teapo on the secondary and a Teapo primary capacitor.

Having Teapo caps is nothing to shout about. Teapo caps range from low end to middle range and the SC line they use for the filtering caps have a low liftime according to the Techpowerup review which also gives the psu a lot of negatives in the summing up. The Kitguru review reveals that Teapo is not the only supplier either as this quote shows, "Kolink told me that may rotate between Teapo and Elite capacitors with ‘no guarantee between the two". Both reviews slate the fan as being of poor quality. Kolink won't even say who the OEM is for these units. No, I would never trust a kolink psu in any pc I built which also means that I would never recommend one to anyone as I would never recommend anything that I would not be 100% happy to use myself.

wow really, i have a 1200w platinum superflower, its about 4 years old hope that doesnt happen to me.
Nah you'll be fine lol, it's not very common for PSUs to fail like that :)

I know it's not ideal and it's frowned upon but does your GPU come with any molex to pci-e adaptors? It should be ok until you can get a replacement psu.

No, but good idea. I've got two 8 pin pci-e connectors and a bunch of spare molex from old PSUs. I can rig something up. Why didn't I think of that? lol. Thanks :)
