So it appears nforce4 spdif out doesn't work with Nvidia

But has no one with an NF4 board (ALC850) managed to output any audio signal through spdif out, using the NVidia audio drivers at all, ever?

I just learned the hard way that the NV drivers somehow "disable" your digital outputs (I can see the signal in the nVMixer but I can't hear a thing), and therefore the only thing you're left with is the crappy Realtek driver which even in its latest version is just terrible in some games (sound stuttering, cutting out). This is just ridiculous...

Do you guys think we will see a release of the nV audio driver someday which actually WORKS for this chipset? Or is this a hardware issue?

Pls discuss as I'm fed up with this crap and don't wanna feel so alone:)

Hi,

If you look at the thread " Logitech Z680 - spdif output cable ? " it may help.

I'm using a DFI NF3 mobo and the onboard sound (Realtek AL850) , NVid Audio Driver 4.62

Running my Logitech Z680's using SPDIF / Digital output with no sound probs.

No stuttering or cutting out.

"even in its latest version is just terrible in some games"

What Driver version are you using and what games are you having probs in ?

Cheers,

Mark

Thanks mate, I'll look in that thread. But I'm talking specifically about the NF4 chipset here. I had no such problem when I had my NF3 board.

As for Realtek drivers being bad, I read they use 2-3 times as much CPU as the NV drivers. The game I'm having problems with is Oblivion, but I realized it's just as bad with the NV 4.62 driver - stuttering, cutting out, just crappy sound. I might try the disable hw acceleration tweak though.
