Ocuk 7900GT or Sapphire X1800XT?

At stock which will be the better buy. I game at 1440x900, the native res of my TFT and run my gfx cards at stock

I play most of the new games, FEAR, FarCry, Qauke4, COD2, Oblivion etc

Im not fussed about getting an ati card as i had a 9800 pro at one time and i was great.

Ive heard there are problems with the x1800xt and the a8n-sli premium mobo, is this true?

The money dosent matter, if the 7900GT is faster i will pay the extra.

At stock speeds the X1800XT has it, though not by much. The 7900gt is awesome for a modder (with more courage than sense), but at stock it's hardly any better than a 7800gtx.

I've never heard of problems with it and the a8n-sli premium (which i have too and am very fond of), but i've only run nvidia cards on it so far.

At the resolution you are playing at you should be able to max pretty much any game out (barring maybe Oblivion with HDR+AA enabled). With a bit of fine tuning (overclocking and modding the config file) though even Oblivion should run like a dream on max settings.

Definitely go for an X1800XT then. :) The way I see it the only reasons to buy a 7900GT are if you want to volt-mod it or if you are really against buying an ATi product for whatever reason.

For particularly high resolutions, the 512MB onboard a X1800 might be pretty useful. Since you won't be overclocking or volt modding (very easy thing to do ;) ) - then opt the ATI route. Both offer similar performance. Exsomnis's signature highlights 1 good feature of the ATi card. :p
