They're giving me a £500 Bursary based over 3 separate payments :)

Thought I'd share this as only a select few get a Bursary at my University out of all of the courses apparently, so they must HAVE (just for you Dave ;)) liked me ;)

Lol. :eek::D

What uni? What course?

I got offered a £2k a year bursary at Northumbria Uni after filling up my UCAS slots with random unis. They phoned me the day after I submitted the UCAS application. I lol'd.

Is this a bursary due to Alevel achievements (i.e. high grades) or due to your parents having crap jobs?

High grades, like a scholarship.

I'm already getting Student Finance of £5.3k for this year as well (that being because 'rents have pants jobs :p)

I was offered £3k per year at Newcastle University as a Scholarship scheme :) But it wasn't the course for me :p

And its Teesside University lol, so i guess a train every morning will be needed ;)

Sounds like a low-standard uni that is desperate to fill places!

Ahhh nice, congrats :) Better than a kick in the balls!

Yeah it was, I think the fact I actually had good high-end qualifications made them get overexcited.

What course and uni is it you're going to then OP? I've had quite a varied uni career before finding what I enjoy so I always find it interesting finding out what other people go for.

When I was at Bangor I was given £500 per year just for doing Chemistry. My friend who was doing Environmental Chemistry was given £1000 a year bursary by the Uni!

must have

Got a lot to learn I see :p Hope you enjoy university, and not so much the debts.

The university that I went to as an undergrad only gave out the bursary to certain subjects - my old housemate was a bit riled that he got nothing for three As at A-level as he did philosophy, but I got just over £1,500 a year (prior achievement bursary included) for doing engineering!

Nice one! As a Newcastle student, you made the wrong choice :D but good luck! Enjoy the money.

:D I don't think i have, if im honest :p

Simply because the course i applied for branched off into computer sciences which i then had to do coding and java-bobly stuff which i never fancied at the time.

So Teesside seemed the better choice :p

Hopefully i can find a placement year for my 3rd year, then i can have some more extra moneys, secure a car or pay off some/most of my university debt :D

Lol, i see why he was :)

Stop picking, my grammar is only useless on these forums, not in 25k word essays ;)

Yeah definitely it's still great to get.

Yup :) My mate applied for the same course, and he's not getting a bursary, lol :p he came from the same college course as well...

Time to rub it in ;)

I got a 2k scholarship + £350 bursary a year at my recent University. Not many people can get them, but have the grades and show the potential and any University will throw things at you!

Not true.

Go to a crap uni and good-ish grades give you a big bursary to temp the good students away from the decent uni to a poorer one as they are desperate for numbers.
Go to a top in (Loughborough, Manchester etc) and only really top end grades (like AAA) give you bursaries (this is based on engineering).
Go to a very top uni such as Camebridge and even fantastic grades, say A* A* A A and you will get nothing.

I can only anticipate the bursaries from the crap universities going through the roof when these £9000 fees hit as they will really struggle for numbers.

Indeed, i think for a scholarship i needed to get distinctions on all of my units at college, which no one has ever done.

But i think i was the highest achiever on my course though.

I needed to have around 420 Tariff points, which was a nono as my drawing skills were pants in my first year ;)
