Creative Digital Media :)

I can branch off to do a various degree of modules;

Oh god,

I graduated Friday, and over my last 3 years I met/worked with many Digital Media students and they hated it. You cover a lot of stuff but to no real depth..basically it's a **** course.

Also what do you mean you will have to get train to uni? Are you living at home? Also another huge mistake there.

I get £500 odd bursary plus £300 something as a grant for completing every year. Since I didn't really expect anything, it's pretty handy.

Not very re-assuring are you. And very blunt :).

It's cheaper for one and its only a 10 minute train journey to Middlesbrough from Redcar, then around about a 10 minute walk so all in all, about a 30 minute journey.

He has a point, the new fees don't kick in for the 11/12 entry.

That so? Phew, lucky escape for this year's bunch!

Actually, I knew that... A girl at church is having to forgo any gap year plans as her parents won't be able to afford her uni fees if she goes next year.

Sorry! I suppose it did come across as very blunt, but sadly it's the truth.

Yes living at home is cheaper, but seriously, moving out is so much better. If you still have time to do so, do it, or you will regret it.

Yup, fixed at £3375 for me for the next 3 years, with my Placement year being around £890 or something close to that for tuition fee :).

That's not how tuition fees work... It's more like a graduate tax. It's a percentage taken from future earnings. Infact, from my rudimentary calculations it's possible to be better off under the new scheme as the repayment threshold is increasing.

Why is that?

She'll either earn enough so that she won't mind paying the loan back or she will end up paying less than she would under the current scheme.

And if her parents are low-earners or she lives away from home, she will get a decent grant and support.

A Very good point.

I agree, but I was hopeing the OP had aimed to go to a decent University. I have a friend that goes to a rather 'rubbish' University, he gets pretty close to what I got and he really is just average at best.

I managed to get an award for my college course, so when I did go to University I made damn sure to mention it and a couple of days later I was offered it from Manchester University. Then again come the new fees I can see a lot of Universitys struggling for the numbers, it will be an interesting time to say the least.

They're giving me a £500 Bursary based over 3 separate payments :)

To quote one of my friends "Why don't they scrap all these stupid bursaries and grants and just use the money saved to lower the fees for everyone?"

Our course has 15 people total (shares a common first year with 8 other courses though) and one of the people gets something like £3k a year in free money. Instead of that they could lower all of ours fees by £200. Ya know, that'd be like equality an' all.
