OK, after various delays on our world-class rail system, I finally got into Southampton to pick the car up.
I'm not going to beat about the bush:
THE DAMN BODYKIT HAS BEEN PAINTED WITH A ******* PAINTBRUSH!!!!!!
Yes, you read that right, a PAINTBRUSH. It looks like it has had a really bad sprayjob, the paint has flaked off, and rather than do the job properly, someone has taken a tin of dulux to it. It looks abysmal. On top of that there is a fairly large 'scrape' mark on the corner of the front bumper.
It's hugely dissapointing.
It's a real shame, as there are a lot of good points to the car. Other than needing a damn good polish the rest of the car is in pretty damn good nick. Seems mechanically sound too, the engine runs baeutifully, the gearchange is nice and slick, there are no nasty noises.
It has a few nice mods too:
- Tanabe springs and shocks (though not coilovers unfortunately [the original springs/shocks are in the boot in the Tanabe boxes])
- Recent-looking stainless exhaust
- Vtec controller
- Some kind of speed meter, kind of like a cut-down mini Apexi RSM
- Half decent double-din headunit
Aswell as the aftermarket wheels the standard wheels are in the car, and they have brand-new Bridgestone rubber on them. I mean brand-new and never used, they still have the little 'nipples' all over them. The aftermarket wheels are shod with Bridgestone Potenzas too, with a decent about of meet left. That's what makes the dulux-o-kit so puzzling, the guy is obviously not afraid to spend money on the car, with the mods and decent rubber, so what possesed him to take a paintbrush to it? Utterly bizarre
All that aside, how does it drive? I'm hugely impressed with the car in that respect. When crusing there is nothing wrong with the amount of torque on offer, the engine is lovely and repsonsive, and pulls nice and cleanly from low revs. Definately better than I was expecting in the lower half of rev guage.
So what's it like when I hit VTEC, yo? Brilliant. OK, so it's no 363bhp RX7, but that doesn't matter. It's a great engine, it just goads you into taking it deep into the redline, it's hugely addictive and grin-inducing.
The handling? I haven't really pushed it yet, but so far it's sublime. So much feedback, and such a lovely pointy front end. I can't wait to push it properly down a b-road, It's going to be fantastic.
Fuel consumption is supurb too.
So as a car the Integra is just fantastic, exactly what I was expecing and I really can't wait to take it on track.
It's a real shame about the bodykit 'issue' as it lets the car down. It shouldn't take much effort/money to sort, but that's not the point.
I've sent an e-mail to the importer with some choice words.
All in all though I'll be pleased with the 'teg once the dodgy bodykit is sorted, it really is a fantasic little car to drive.
