So, I've installed a custom ROM!

Maybe everyone is perplexed by the conundrum you present. You installed a rom, but you don't know why? I'll be honest, i dont think the majority of iphone users would understand what you did to your phone to start with.

I've rooted my desire and installed the Defrost custom ROM, mostly thanks to the excellent guide by Khaan! http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18195985
Now, I was wondering, what cool stuff can I do with my phone now that its got a custom ROM on! Anything that will make iPhone users even more jealous! :p
And how do I get all these cool themes I keep seeing?

Thanks

Chris

TBH, the main reason to root is to be able to run a custom rom, so you've already taken advantage of that. However, you can also:

  • Create a custom theme over at http://circle.glx.nl/ (including custom startup animations)
  • Customise Defrost with additional mods such as HAVS and adblock (in Defrost settings on your phone)
  • Customise even further with CyanogenMod Settings (menu button....Settings)
  • Automatically backup apps and data with MyBackupPro and Titanium Backup.

I'm sure others will chip in with more, but 99.9% of apps don't need root access.

Thanks for the info, will have a look at those.

I've just noticed an issue, the notification LED's and button lights don't seem to be working. I'm not too bothered about the button lights but the notification LED's are very handy. The LED's work when it's plugged in charging, but when i get a text or email, they don't seem to work. Is there something i need to enable somewhere?

Thanks

as a iphone user I'm very very jealous of your rom that you don't know what to do with and your non functioning lights :)

Ive just rooted mine and im trying to work out whats with all this radio rubbish. :(.
& i cant decide between Defrost & OpenDesire. lol.,

I'm assuming your jealous of him paying anywhere from 50 -30 % of the price of your Iphone as well ;):p

nope, the thing is I don't look at initial cost, and contract prices are much the same... i choose the tool that suits me best for business, and as much as I love android and the desire, I prefer lag free simplicity of the iphone UI

it's all personal though, you choose what suits you best...

after using a bb though I'm starting to consider one, it's god like for email

one thing I love about the iphone is I just don't have to faff with roms / flashing / customising... don't really have time these days, and as fun as it is, you can spend whole days doing that kind of malarky without knowing it

just remeber to learn how to do a hard rest though, you will use it quite a bit :D

also wish your reception doesn't start playing up

I don't think I've ever had to hard reset any if my iPhones in the last few years I've used them, and that's with them jailbroken etc... so I'm not sure where you picked up that gem of information from.

Reception doesn't "play up" either.
