So many chipset types...

My case is one of the original Fractal Design cases so not sure if the H100i would fit. Is the top end Phantek the best air cooler you can get?

Overclocking on the 1155 chips is just upping cpu multiplier (leave the bclck alone as it's now linked to the iGPU), so it means you aren't reliant on the RAM being able to keep up with the FSB increases (because there aren't any :D).

I can't speak for the 3570K, but my 2500K was easily cooled at 4.6GHz with a thermaltake Frio, which seems to have shot up in price from the £30 I paid for it. I think the 3570K runs a tad hotter though so we'll see when mine arrives next week.

Let me know how you get on running FSX on it (assuming you still do!).

Presumably it'll be a smidgen better than the 2500K, which was a massive jump from my previous E8400. I had my 2500K at 4.6GHz for a while before backing it off to 4.2GHz just because I didn't need the extra 400MHz and it kept temps/volts stability nice and easy.

3570K should be arriving next week with the bits from my missus' photo rig (I'm doing a sly switcheroo with the chips ;) ) since the PSU is out of stock, but once it's all up and running I may have to have a blast on FSX. I admit it's been a while since I fired it up so may have to do some tuning.

I have an i5 750 @ 3.8 at the moment but its around 3 years old now so the newer tech should help run FSX a bit better hopefully.

It will, ivybridge has a decent IPC increase from the 760 and clocks higher too. I know I was able to fly vanilla LHR with heavy traffic with no real issues on my 2500K.

Well, they say filling up all of the RAM slots gives you less leg room when overclocking as it is putting more strain on the mobo. However some say it is a load of tosh and never have any issues getting good overclocks.

Personally, get as much as you want. 16GB (2x 8GB) is a good sweet spot these days.

I'm one of those who thinks it's a load of rubbish too. I've nearly always filled up all the RAM slots on my boards and it's never hindered overclocking.

It only tends to effect extreme overclocking, or when the mobo is cheap(for what it does).

The timings of those XMS dimms recommended a bit up are on the high side.

I would recommend either of the below CAS10 dimms for the same price:

Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C10 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit @ £79.99

Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C10 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit @ £79.99

The first kit will fit under a large air cooler.
