No contact for at least 20 years, he turns up out of the blue, just says ‘I thought I should be friends with’my wife ’’ Anyway, so yeah fine good to see you mate, how are things, what’s going on

So I think the bloke came to visit after 20 years out of the blue to test the waters for some cash.

I was equally confused, but I think they are all the same person :confused:

OP's wife has a sister and a brother. OP's wife and brother have been out of touch for 20 years. At some point, the other sister was "financially unpleasant" to them both, and around that time the brother also ended up getting divorced.

Then a couple of years ago, when the OP's parents died, he was talking to his wife's brother (his BiL) and discussed things like inheritance and Power of Attorney.

The brother (BiL) is now back apparently looking for some cash.

Am I right?

What baffles me then is that he started the whole thing saying "no contact in 20+ years", but then they met a few years ago after the parents died?

Did he forget they met a few years ago? No he didn't...because he wrote a long paragraph about it....

The guy divorced his own sister who is also OP's wife's sister.

Only joshing OP, we all need to vent occasionally :). Don't get me started on the guy who's been using his leaf blower for the last 45 minutes.

I know.

And why would the estranged brother (of OP's wife) be invited to the funeral of the OP's parents?! Unless it was actually the funeral of wife's (and therefore the brother's) parents.

But that would suggest the brother would possibly be due some of the inheritance, depending on details of any will, etc.
