So...My first Service A on the Supra

ah yes the 3.5 toyota V6 is meant to be a cracker of an engine. but we dont really see many of them in the UK, its a camry/aurion engine...

best performance motor available from toyo in the UK is the 180 diesel!!!!

what happened to turbo? or screamer vvtli's?!

thats a wierd combo. fwd i take it?

Yes it was also FWD and you couldnt turn the traction control off either. And it was SO easy to activate the TCS which would then kill all the power. In the middle of an intersection. With a B Double heading towards you at 70mph. Fail.

I liked it, though. I think.

The only way to get this engine in the UK is to buy a Lotus Evora. Shame, it was a fantastic engine, it really was. Sounded amazing and had fantastic punch even when weighed down by a 6 speed slushmatic and 1800kg of land yacht.

the techs were running scared of it because none of them had ever seen one before let alone worked on one before.

None of them had worked on a Vectra before? That's pretty strange for a Vauxhall dealer, I really don't think your car needs a specialist as it's still a fairly recent mass produced car that any dealer will be able to look after.

He means a VXR, the engine is hardly the same as a standard one, and iirc he was having gearbox trouble, isnt likely to be a small job to remove and refit.

Can see that one being passed around the workshop until someone got the short straw and was more than likely the first person there to remove and refit one.

the issue was an air leak somewhere in the system.

The airbox and air feed on the VXR is model specific, and the intercooler is specific to the 2.8 Turbo petrol model which is just as rare.

As said, they didnt know where to start looking as they will have done very little to no work on this engine before. They found the leak eventually, but only once they'd removed the bumper and effectively learnt it from scratch.

for the record, there were less than a 1000 vectra VXRs ever registerd, explaining why dealers are so unfamiliar with them.

I'm lucky to be a few miles from a reputable jap specialist who is easy on the wallet and high in service and expertise. A lot of Honda owners drive a good distance just to have work done by them despite the releatively small outfit.

I'd be scared of a dealer bill for an older car like the Supra. I'd rather take it a bit further for specialist care but if you trust the lads that work there then cost is irrelevant in some respects. Looking like 3-4 hours work/labour + parts on top for that work I'd expect.

Ah special problem then, was just confused as pretty much most of the car is shared across the range, i've always seen a few VXRs at our local dealer when we send our Vectras for service.

you'd be very lucky to see several Vectra VXRs parked outside your local dealership.

As said, theres less than thousand of them on the roads.

There isn't a Vauxhall specialist because no one needs to specialise in slicing bread

Except there are ..

Courtenay Sport
Thorney Motorsport
Midpoint Garage
monkfish performance

to name a few

there are loads of others that cater for the old vauxhalls like the C20 LET stuff that's used in kit cars etc..

I heard there was less than 500 after over half of them understeered off the roads into trees. ;)

funnily enough, it is very good at chasing Civic Type Rs up mountain roads.

Reels them in like fish. Possibly because my car has enough torque to go up hills mind ;)

Bear in mind some Civic Type-Rs had questional wet grip on that particular occasion :p

Our local garage is Motorbodies in Luton.

who currently have several Vectra SRIs in stock, and the usual dross like vectra lifes etc.. but no VXRs in stock

You've probably seen the SRI with XP kit, but much of the setup is custom to that VXR. Take for example, the IDS+ suspension system, with electronically controlled active dampers that adjusts for bump / rebound. Same goes with the airbox, that was modified specificly for the vectra VXR 280.

The other bits are specific to the Vectra 2.8 Turbo Petrol, but this was only ever available on the elite model, with an auto gearbox and cost almost as much as the VXR, so is just as rare as nobody bought one.

So much so, even though there are about 8 VXRs on pistonheads, theres not one 2.8 T petrol elite.

Ive gotta say, its a damn rare car, I have only seen two on the roads up to now.

which VX dealer did you go to MrLOL? The one in Cas does work on Police cars, so they may have had a V6T in before

I don't think you need to educate me on Vauxhalls lol;) I'm not talking about what's in stock at the moment, i'm referring to the service car park/customer car park etc.
