So my friends got me into playing WoW... [A small warning]

I joined a CoD4 team who also happen to play WoW almost a month ago now. Two of them have played literally THOUSANDS of hours on WoW, and the other has played a few hundred.

I used to bug them all the time, and try to get them to play CoD4, but in time they just told me to come play WoW instead. At this point I was pretty skeptical, but gave the trial ago...

Less than 3 weeks later, I have bought the full game, I'm well past level 30 and have racked up 43 hours on the game already. :o

I have to say though, this is a brilliant game. So much stuff to do, so much to consider and think about with combat and gear and stats. I'm a maths nerd so it's interesting for me! :D I rolled a human fire mage, and I'm probably sticking to PvE for now.

If anyone's interested, I'm on Lightbringer realm, and my nick is Onlyy. I could do with a decent low level/social guild that can offer help or advice when needed.

In conclusion, don't even trial WoW if you're not prepared to pay a substantial amount for the expansions and a monthly sub fee!

43 Hours in 3 weeks isnt too bad, its only 2 hours a day. As with all things in life is all about moderation and self control. :) I enjoyed my time in WoW (during 2004-2006) but its had its time for me. Not enough of an MMO ultimately for my tastes, but was decent in its day.

And there has been about 5 or 6 of those days where I have played none at all, so it's actually more like 3. :p

Still not to be a pedant or anything. I mainly posted this because I literally never play MMOs. I started off with FPS on consoles, then moved to FPS on PC, and I played a few games like Fallout in between CoD etc.

I'm scared of this getting expensive! :p

I go and come back to wow all the time, the new content for low levelling is brilliant, 1-60 is a joy now, 60-70 is pretty dull though, i cancelled my sub with my character in the mid 60's, ill go back to it in a few months.

I solo'd 1-60 is 50 hours, its so quick to solo now due to the quest chains.

Enjoy the game. The first character, first experiences of levelling and instances is probably the best fun you will get out of the game.

Take your time, try and take as much of it in as possible. Don't be in a hurry to level up.

I played WoW for just under 2 years and like you, used to abuse all those who played it. I gave in and tried it, being a fan of RPG's quite liked it.

At the end of it all, after levelling, joining guilds, getting gear, raiding, etc, the game eventually has nothing to offer except "new content" which is essentially tweaked or recycled game mechanics that repeat themselves and never end.

E.G - The quest for never ending bettering gear.

Good fun game but has a life expectancy for most normal people. I'm not too aware of players who have played since day one and are still playing today for example.

The best thing I can think and the only thing I miss to this day about my WoW days is the social aspect. I miss a lot of my old guildies and in game buddies. I've met people from across Europe and learned many things in my time talking with random players.

I can totally relate to the OP and agree with much of the comments such as, the levelling through to 60 is the best bit, Burning Crusade is a bore imo.

I got the latest expansion and have hardly touched it.

After really liking the graphics style upto even mid last year, I just find it so yesteryear now.

For the first time ever, I think the end of Wow is nigh even though that sounds like a ridiculous prediction, we'll see...

Played for 3 years at release and burn't out mainly due to a very decent guild I was in falling apart and pug groups. I found I was always comparing guilds I then joined to the one I was in and never quite found my feet in it again, so quit.

Then after a good year and a half of playing other mmo's I bought the Cata expansion and from a content point of view I'm enjoying the game more than ever tbh. (now currently subbed to WoW and DC Universe).

My mate has been trying to get me into it for a year or two now. I gave the trial a go a few times but couldn't get into it, but he sent me another one recently with a triple-XP promotion and we've played a fair bit of it now. I find playing co-op with friends is great fun, but on your own things are very boring; quests are dull as ditchwater (go here, collect that, kill this) and when you don't understand something it's quite hard to find out what to do. Took me ages to realise that my worgen didn't need to train to ride before he could move faster and I could just cast a spell that made me run on all fours.

I'm scared of WoW. Never even downloaded the trial. I've got an addictive personality, and it looks like my type of game. I KNOW i'll get hooked if I try. I'm bad enough with single-player rpg's. At least with them I can stop playing once I've seen all the content.

That sounds very wise!

Personally I play wow casually, and I like it - I dont dont play enough to burn out so it has lasting appeal for me.

It's fine in moderation as is everything, but when you find yourself logging on just for the sake of it jumping round orgrimmar bored all day. That's when you know it's time to move on.

Wow is great in moderation.
Glad I'm burnt out from it, 5hours a night 5days a week to lose server first by a few hours on lk hc just wasn't worth it.
Although playing 3-5 hours a week doesn't justify the sub really.
