Hello folks.

So finally received my rig. Built it up, worked first time all good.

However quick bench on 3dmark... my GPU mark is same as what it was with my 4770 (around 17.2k).
However my CPU mark is much lower than I expected. Similar systems are getting nearly 15.3k.

Also not sure how but the top results have same GPU core as myself... yet worlds apart on score...


I will be honest the only thing I did in the MSI bios was to click the "OC" function which took the core speed to 5.5GHz and the XMP profile for the 3200 64GB sticks I have....

I havent installed any further motherboard drivers etc, other than what was installed with W10.

Are there anythings right off the bat that I should be doing?
 
Ok just checking CPU scores... it seems I have the lowest mark for the same specs... i just dont get it.. .by over 1000k points in 3dmark... clearly something not right....

Any thoughts folks?
 
Well ram is running at 16 20 20 38 at 3200mhz. Standard xmp profile.

Ive got the cpu on a h150 aio and i got the fans at full blast...

The temps do reach 80c on the cpu... but the demo is running not for very long...

So can’t see how it is thermal throttling.. (if that’s what you meant?)


Is there something in the bios i need to tweak?

The dram reference clock selections are coming as 100 and 133mhz... not sure if this is right...

CPU ratio mode is set to dynamic
CPU ratio is 51
Ring frequency is 4300
CPU base clock is 100
Dram timing is link

Not sure what I’m doing wrong :(
 
I didn’t have it installed. Now I installed it it seems to have made things worse. Off it comes.
Still 1k lower. It doesn’t make sense. I know something I’m doing is wrong.
 
Ive 2 x 32GB of 3200 stuff.
Ive tried overclocking the sticks to 3600 and its given me another 400 points but nowhere near what I was expecting honestly speaking....

Still non the wiser :( :( :(
 
Im honestly not sure if the results Im getting are reasonalble or not....

Im getting around 17.2 3dmark total, 17.7 GPU and 14.7 CPU.


Others who are above me have their GPU overclocked more than mine and CPU overclocked... plus faster memory....

I think :| I would appreciate if someone could coroborate what Im saying?

please please please use 4400mhz memory just some cheap viper steel series or the team group 2x16gb dual rank pc3600 8pack is good! on offer at £200. with settings @ (cl17/17/17/17/36T cas2) 1.45v/1.48v/1.5v samsung b die

also the Ring frequency needs to be 4700/4800mhz at least!

your 10900k should do 4900. maybe even 5000.

being an msi motherboard i cant check your cpu 'SP quality' should do 5ghz 5.1ghz and if your lucky at 1.35v 5.2ghz.

unless you want to pop it over and plug it in my asus apex board. im in kent so not far.
 
A 10900K on a benchmark site, will be on an all core OC. It is ridiculously easy to get 5.1ghz+
Best thing to do to see if your cpu is underclocking heavily is to run HwiNfo64, and a cpu benchmark.
I'm not a fan of motherboard one-click Overclocks.
Your ring ratio is pretty low considering your cpu ratio of 51. Aim to have a ring ratio around -3 of whatever your cpu ratio is.
Disable Intel C state in bios if you haven't already, run a test and see if that ups your score.

I changed the 3200Mhz sticks I had and went for Corsair VENGEANCE RGB PRO 64GB (2x32GB) DDR4 3600 (PC4-28800) C18 Desktop memory – Black, 2 x 32 GB.
Its given a bit of a boost, but I wonder like for like on 3dmark CPU benches honestly speaking if I am in the correct ballpark.

Is the ring ratio allowed to go up that high? Does it make a big influence on the result going from 4300 to 4900?

You mentioned go for 4400 memory but you also mentioned the 3600 from 8pack.... isnt that the same kinda stuff I got above from Corsair?

Thanks bud, appreciate your insights....Im not familiar with how to determine if underclocking heavily, how do I do this? You mentioned Hwinfo64 and cpu benchmark?
If undervolting happens = failed test?
Ring ratio - got it, will change
Intel C state - got it! will change also.

Hmm, increased Ring ratio and disabled intel c-state.
Almost negligible change... suprisingly...

My voltage is around 1.35v I believe....

Is there another way to bench to ascertain if I am getting the right performance from my CPU?
 
You can use Blender and/or Cinebench, I would avoid Prime95 as I doubt you are doing the kind of work that requires a Prime95 AVX torture test.
During the tests you want to see what your cpu core speed is at, if it stays at 5100mhz or drops down, you may be running an offset for avx.
Also what is your long duration power setting at?

My power setting is I believe 4096?
So I should run Hwinfo alongside say cinebench and just monitor the frequency? if the frequency goes down that means not enough core voltage i.e. undervolting?

FireTwo- can you link me to the appropriate item in question?
 
You'll be comparing people with all core overclocks to your pretty much default config.

You say you've run the auto OC but that's probably only adjusted single core ratio.

I'm not sure what your BIOS is like but if it's anything like my gigabyte aurous z390 ultra you want to set all core to the maximum ratio you can. (i.e. for my 9900k they're all set to 50 and then I have an AVX ratio of -1 as my cpu isn't great and can't do 5ghz on all cores without too much voltage)
