I received a replacement PSU, Corsair CMPSU-650HX, in May, 2011. It still works fine, but is it compatible with the gear I'd like? Should I be using it? My plan is to sell all my old gear second hand with the exception of the 2TB hard drive & SSD. I'd just bin the 'old' PSU if I can't use it, in fact, I'd probably bin my old Gigabyte DS3 mobo, as well.

I am proposing the following:

Ryzen 5 2600 3.4Ghz (using stock cooler)
MSI B450M Mortar Micro ATX Mobo
Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory
MSI RX 570 8 GB Armour
970 Evo 250GB M.2 SSD (For OS)
Samsung 500gb 860 Evo SSD (for some games)
Old 2TB HD (for everything else)
Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory
Case - Corsair - Carbide 88R MicroATX Mid Tower Case

I'd also appreciate any case & free sync monitor (at least 24") suggestions. The case needs to have really good airflow, and I wouldn't mind a window to sling some fancy lights / fans / a radiator in. In terms of case styling, something plain would be good nothing too aggressive.

Thanks very much in advance!

PSU is still a Tier 2 unit so pretty good, just no warranty etc but has the power easily for RX GPUs, even Vega 56

whats your total budget for system and monitor ?

your proposed list currently

BB CODE
My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £677.04 (includes shipping: £11.10)

good matx case with glass panel :)

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £66.05 (includes shipping: £11.10)

roughly matching your list , cheaper board which allows to push for rx 580 8GB . 1TB drive for games and OS instead of two drives and less storage
cheaper ram , does the same job just as well

add in case above :)

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £669.45 (includes shipping: £10.50)

Thinking I might have cracked it!

Any suggestions on the below?

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £663.63 (includes shipping: £11.70)

I'll re-use my existing PSU, Samsung 250GB SSD & 1TB HDD.

I'm thinking the white LED fan goes at the back as an exhaust. Should look decent?

same price, rx580 vs rx570 and 480gb ssd vs 250gb . if your playing games off the NVMe , might notice 0.5sec increas ein game load, OS might notice a second or 2 quicker

Fractal are greats cases as well, i have old define which im hanging onto... again go for Orbitals PSUs the silverstone one you picked was small form factor and wouldnt fit without an adaptor whhich is why its so expensive

So I have ordered the following:

Total: £742.64 (includes shipping: £11.70)

However - I am worried about the PSU. I note the GPU requires an 8-pin PCI Express Connector. Will my current PSU (Corsair CMPSU-650HX) support that, and would it have come with the cable originally, or will I have to buy some adapter for it?

Because its 8 years old and it is about to power a new system with more power draw. You got 8 years out of it so quit while the going is good.

I swapped out my PSU earlier in the year from a 2011 build, the old one still works but I'd rather be safe than sorry... I'm happy with it being a back up, the old one that is.

I suppose you have a point. Ideas? I'd like to to be quiet, stable and ideally have a feature which will automatically shut off the fan when not needed. The SilverStone I posted above seemed to fulfill all the requirements but will it fit the case?

£9 more, UK RMA and rep support on here. Plus better PCB

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/giga...ddr5-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-192-gi.html

Could also save £60 with Vulcan 3000hz ram .

That board can't push 3700hz plus like flagship x470 ... Could be wrong but dont think the PCB and path way quality match's it's flagship models.

The GPU was picked up for £179. I posted about the memory here: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/memory-meltdown.18843635/ which should explain the choice.

Use ryzen ram.calculator , will find any ram you grab is still poorly optimised for ryzen :)

Should help a little to , most can push that to 3700 with x470/570 boards

Do you think the RAM choice is a bad idea? Realistically, all I'm looking to do is get the best bang for buck and activate auto overclocking on the motherboard. Happy to take advice, because lord knows yoully know more than I
