So there's this huge debate about what Valve are doing by sending your browsing data to VAC servers

If it works against cheating then I'm fine with Valve doing it. I wouldn't trust EA or Microsoft similarly because they have not earned it but Valve have. I've played against obvious cheaters (and probably lots of other times that I didn't even know about) and anything that stops them is a good thing. It's one of the main things putting me off multiplayer gaming right now, so much cheating.

Totally agree. plus the way Gabe stated it, it's not sending the whole dns to VAC just doing a local compare against known bad servers and flagging them up.

As an avid online gamer, catching cheats is A ok in my book :)
 
but the general principal? taken a bit further... maybe apps on your phone will monitor your call que to see what numbers you have been calling..... fire up GPS to see where you are / have been etc etc...

they have no right to covertly do something other than yuo would expect form the application...

But it isn't taken further though. We can't just use increasingly exaggerated examples to get our point across.
