So, two noob DSLR questions... (File format and anti-shake)

To be honest if you're taking anything that requires quick start-ups I'd just leave the camera on.
Buff and myself are talking about the startup start required to enable the IS to kick into action in a lens. Having the camera always on makes no difference.
 
Sadly, when I use my SLR I have it always in a ready to shoot position (in hand and not against my face). I can start the IS well before the camera is up to my eye, and its ready to fire almost imediately. Usually the second shot is steady :)
