It is a scam and is happening a lot.
The seller reports his XBOX broken to M$ and they send out a free replacement immediately with the promise he returns the broken one. He pays a nominal fee on a pay as you go credit card that can't be traced with the knowledge that M$ can not then take the rest of the money if he doesn't return the faulty console, ie M$ protecting themselves from people asking for new consoles and not returning faulty ones.
He puts your address on the infomation to M$ and M$ post you a replacement xbox and expect you to return a faulty one. They will chase you for the faulty console as they have your address or the outstanding amount of $$ owed. You either pay up, end up with M$ debt or get a bricked console via the net.
Not 100% sure of the logisitics of the scam, but I think it works like this, loads of posts on bitcoin forums with people using this scam to sell for Bitcoins.
M$ are supposedly stopping the authorisation through pay as you go credit cards to stop this scam.
Good luck
