So what is about about ironsights and a fast time to kill in fps that appeals?

If you want to you CAN play these games skilfully and competitively, there is a mountain of difference between your average joe CoD/CSS player and someone with actual skill in the game, this has always been the case with every multiplayer game, all that has changes is the number of people playing them and the accessibility of the games as a result, this means you get more "bad" or "casual" players than you do skilled ones who take the games seriously. The same can be said for literature, with more people reading you get more easy to read dross like Twilight than Lord of the Rings, however hardcore fantasy or Sci-Fi is still being made, you don't have to change your tastes as a result. Same goes for film and music.

The majority will always have more created for them but outliers will always exist, there are still twitch based/slower paced FPS games out there with people playing them, you just have to remember than you are a minority, and realistically always were in a way.

I really dislike the elitism and the utter bile spewed by some towards the change in the way games are made and played, it serves no purpose and just makes you sound bitter. The more people playing games means more and better games, if you want to play the games from your day you still can because they still exist, but expecting developers to pander to a tiny demographic is ridiculous.

Why can't people just live and let live? Play the games YOU want to play the way YOU want to play them, nothing is stopping you, spitting bile at those whose opinions differ to yours doesn't help anybody and just serves to distance yourselves from both the larger gaming demographics as well as the developers of the games they play. I want as many people to be playing as many games as possible because I love gaming and want more people to enjoy it, gaming has the ability to become something as normal as listening to music of watching films, but for that to truly happen people really need to get over themselves and allow it to change as it needs to.

cod 1 uo was all about Kar98, mosin, BAR, garrand . skilled people with those ruled. bar was a monster but a lot didnt use as recoil was a kicker.

Agreed. I started on the Mosin Nagant, graduated to the Kar98K then proceeded to learn the BAR and, oh my goodness, nobody was safe. Those were the days.

Always did my best with the good ol' British Enfield Number 4, too.

think its more with how with dlc control and no mods allowed the comp scene has took a nose dive. so those who look for more skill based fps are left with nothing or lack lustre games than they are used to playing.

to the masses it does seem like they are whinging for nothing as there is plenty of fps games around. its just the fps games that are around dont cater for what the smaller comp percentage look for or cater for the mods that could make them into what people want.

titanfall isn't perfect but with a few small tweaks it could be a great comp fps title that is both fast enjoyable and isn't just linear. you get decent reg aswell unlike any other much shooters like bf.

Oh man, I use to love playing COD 1 and 2, Halo, MOHAA and SOF 2. I then moved on to BF2 and 2142 which were probably the last multiplayer fps games that I genuinely enjoyed and put hours into. I don't get that from the current crop.

I've played a lot of FPS in my day. I was very very good at them too, top 1% easily.

I only ever found one game that had everything I wanted, tactical gameplay, good netcode, teamwork, all items/weapons had a use. That game was Ravenshield.

Hmm top 1%? That is world class pro level. Did you play for a team?

Anyway, if you like more sim style games, Arma 3 is very good. You can play with teams of friends against other teams on vast maps with really detailed objectives. Pretty epic really :)

Because all the best players were pro.

No, but the vast majority of people who think they are, aren't ;) The only way to know is to regularly play with and against other 'pros'.

We were very comfortably mid tier in RTCW and ET. Good enough to top the tables on publics, which to be fair was true of low tier too, but not nearly good enough to stand toe to toe with the big boys!

Thats why I asked if he played for a team.

Our team was division 1 in RTCW:ET in the jolt leagues. We never played seriously though, and never even practiced as a team really! We were just a bunch of Q3 players that thought we would try it :)

Was a great laugh :)
