So what is WAR like then ?

bought it, played it for the free month included + the extra time given to beta testers.

found the whole experience very unrewarding. i was PVEing a lot more than battlegrounds, purely as BG are boring. Played as alliance / order whatever they are called, found unless you play empire there just wasnt anyone about - especially in the Elf zones. As such, public quests were just left undone > gear wasnt won > BG became harder.

The futility of it all kinda lends you to HAVE to play destro, but thats just a pointless endevour as everyone else is playing destro, so no wonder its so unbalanced.

basically, if you make one side look superbad and the other side look lame, then dont be surprised when its totally imbalanced.

5/10.

WAR has a really nice balance of large and small-scale RvR, PvE and leveling content. The problem is that loads of the content isn't accessible, either because the campaigns have been tuned too hard or the scenario queuing system was poorly implemented. That and a combination of stability issues, poor performance and crap support has driven players away, leaving a population spread too thinly over too many servers, playing a game that feels like it should still be in beta.

It's a shame, because had Mythic worked harder on some of the key issues this game would be a really good alternative for anyone like me who has long since milked all the fun out of WoW. As it is WAR isn't worth the subscription.

"4 year old established MMO better than 2 month old one" Shocker

Yes, there are bugs. Yes, its unbalanced, yes it needs fixing. Its certainly in a better state than WoW was 2 months in.

I've been playing WoW since Beta (and still am) and I've also been playing WAR since closed Beta too. I think the majority in this thread prefer PvE...and thats fine, WoW has that in spades.

But I've had more fun in WAR since than I ever had in WoW since they ruined it with TBC, and other than better environments, WotLK is no better. The instances suck balls (bring back multi-layered, multi-quest repeatable instances, like BRD) and PvP is still a CC-fest. And yet still the only way to level is endless collection quests.

The BIG issue with WAR currently comes down to population. The servers are dead, and GOA continues to try and push people onto empty servers (free transfers pushing people from low pop to empty servers) because they're under the impression that closing servers is a sign of a failing MMO.

They need to bite the bullet, close a bunch of the empty servers and increase the population on the ones that are left. You *need* packed servers in order to do PQ's and RvR, and having 20 people online across your tier (both Destro and Order) isn't good enough.

This may seem like a pro-WAR post, but its more of an Anti-Blizzard post. I want WAR to succeed mainly because I dislike what Blizzard have turned WoW into since TBC - a dumbed down MMO appealing to the lowest-common denominator.

It's the cost of the damned thing, 30 quid? Then recurring subs. Me no likey. I'm happy with subs without a whopper of a cost for the actual data though. Tenner for WoW and tbc, then just 20 pound for the latest rendition. Not bad.

My server is medium-high population server, and the population is pretty much balanced.

We have active World RvR every night, last Sunday our alliance along with another alliance managed to lock down 2 zones. We're planning on doing it again soon and going for Order's capital city.

The PvE is great fun with public quests and dungeons, but it all depends on whether you can get a good group. I'm lucky enough to be in a very active guild with a few friends, we've raided Bastion Stair every evening this week.
