I've had an xbox for ages, but finally am starting to play it more than twice a month (I'm skint and don't want to get bladdered as often :p)

I've got:
Gears 2 - Just completed it, awesome game! And Horde is still rewarding.
Fracture - *shudder*
Too Human - Really enjoyed it, abrupt and unsatisfying ending.
Halo 3 - For some, godlike, for me; Meh.
Assassins Creed - Good to drop on and play for a bit, but I get bored quickly.
Prince of Persia - See Above.
Fight Night R3 - It's OK.
Lost Oddyssey - I get tell if I get stuck in it'll be epic, but the whole thing feels clunky and unenjoyable.
Fable2 - Enjoyed it until near the end, and then got fed up with the basic combat system and childlike world.

Soooo. What game do you suggest I pop out and purchase today?
I don't mind paying full whack for something new, but I'd prefer something I can get pre-owned or a bit cheaper.

I love all genres, though I don't get much pleasure from the VERY indepth racing games.

I haven't played any flight sims, I quite like the idea of some flying fun.

Fable 2 is still quite new and can still be had quite cheap new. Fairly different from anything you have listed. I am fairly sure this provided me well over 50 hours of enjoyment.

Knew I forgot one! Got fable 2. Enjoyed it muchly and then sort of lost interest in the final throes of playing. Thanks though rp2000.

I should point out single player is quite important to me, but that's because my internet connection is far from superb.

fallout 3?

How akin is this to Oblivion? I never really enjoyed it, too focused on an incredibly detailed storyline and world, and I felt the character interaction felt clumsy.

Looking at Saints Row 2 now cheers! Why is it better than GTA?

Ooooo what about Godfather II?

well I liked both oblivion and fallout 3. I do prefer fallout 3 though but it took me about 6 hours of playing for it to click.

Saints row 2 isnt better than GTA IV, its a fun game but I prefer GTA IV

I enjoyed GTA 4 - its more a serious story line and less crazy over the top like previous versions (saints row 1+2 are more crazy).

Mirrors edge - something a bit different - a free running game - short but can be had for £10 - £15 if you search.
Cod 4 - great multiplayer game, enjoyeable single player storyline (COD waw also if you prefer old world war action)
Fifa09 - best footy game at mo.
Resident Evil 5 - if you liked 4s change of pace you'l enjoy this.
Deep Space - more like the old resident evils but in space.

These are my suggestions from having a quick look at my collection. I agree with your points on Halo 3 - I have it but its just very meh - I have no drive to get into it. Assasins creed is very repetitve throughout - best done in small doses! :)

GTA 4 is pretty fun IMO. I'd echo the recommendation about mirrors edge though, great game that's pretty cheap.

Well, I ended up buying COD World at War on impulse.

Cheers for the input guys. Added a few to my to buy list :)

Some others for you to consider:

Bully: Scholarship Edition
Crackdown
Dead Rising
Test Drive Unlimited
Mass Effect
Bioshock

All fantastic games and can be had quite cheap now.

Forza2 = Hours & Hours of Fun.

^ I may have missed that part of your post. :D

It is truly awesome racing sim but the endurance races are too stupid for words, atleast I can't be bothered doing them.

Mass Effect - Excellent RPG shooter
Fallout 3 - Another Excellent RPG shooter
GTA4 - Best of the GTA series in my opinion, probably one of the best games I've owned on the 360.

I'm loving Fallout 3 at the moment, It's better than Oblivion, because, and Bethesda said this themselves, There are intentionally less NPCs in the world, and so they have more interesting and immersive dialogues. Also, Guns are better than swords in First person:D

The moment you get hold of an assault rifle, It seperates itself from oblivion in a good way

Mass Effect- if you avent played this then why not? its awesome! seriously
COD4 - can be picked up fairly cheaply and is simply epic
GTA4 - simply stunning and easily 30+ hours of gameplay in this. thats without finishing everything as well.
