Noticed an advert today stating that Spooks Season 1 is starting a re-run on UKTV next Sunday. I've never seen the show before but quite fancy checking it out this time around.

What would you say are the closest TV series to it? 24? The Fixer? The Unit? The Bill?! Just want to get an idea for what I'm letting myself in for here, I quite enjoy espionage novels but some films don't do it for me.

Not entirely sure what to compare it to, but I found it intelligent, well-acted and absorbing - easily one of the best BBC dramas I've seen in a while. On top of that, I thought the first two series of it were the best. It can be brutal, though - what I can definitely confirm is that it's absolutely nothing like The Bill - it's better acted, scripted and filmed. And they obviously put a lot of thought and money into it.

If you like espionage stuff, I'm sure you'll like it.

I love Spooks. Through all of its series it has been consistently well written, well acted and well produced. It has great storylines that often seem far-out, but sometimes have an uncanny parallel to current events. It's brilliant fun as well, good spy stuff, you should definitely give it a try!

The first series or two were really good. After that they killed off the entire cast, and the new lot weren't so great.

I've enjoyed every single episode, from the 1st series, right though to the 6th. If you've never seen them I'd definitely say give them ago. Even better that it is starting with the 1st series, so you don't have to jump in at some random point :).

It's very good stuff, and it's possibly the only British drama series with a techy twist that doesn't make me cringe.

The only criticism I can lay at Spooks was the 3rd series when they got rid of most of the central characters. It all went a bit pear shaped during that run, but since the start of the fourth series I personally consider it 'must see' telly.

The writers set the tone for Spooks at the end of the second ever episode. Frying tonight! :D

It is a good programme, but I do think the last series wasn't quite as good as the first couple, but still worth watching.

Very uneven series that didn't know when to say "stop". First cast and first few seasons were brilliant. Now that practically no one from original cast remains and some leading characters revolve on half season basis (the unlikable Ros Myers for example) I think the sixth season lost the quality of the original story and with it its appeal. It's a pity but it's off my "freevo" permanently...

Dogs Danglies.
I missed Spooks the first time around - only ever seeing an episode when series 5 was shown.
I got immediately hooked and bought all the season 1-5 boxed sets.
I'm now fully up to date and still think it is one of the better programs on TV.

Well worth taking the time to watch.

I really enjoyed it, a very ingrosing (sp?) series thats well thought out and has a good cast, would recommend it to anyone

really enjoy spokks thou last series was a complete let down, trying to carry on the same story for way to long. I prefer each episode to have it's own storyline, and spread onto 2 episodes max

I'd agree with the above comments that the first couple of seasons were excellent, then it lost its way a bit.

I heard that they're currently filming a new series set in post nuclear-strike London, set in the near future - is this true?

Its alright for british tv.

Compare it to anything American though and its a poor second best.

I personally dont like it.

Watched 5 of the 6 eps from first series and thought it was decent.
Not what it's hyped up to be of course but certainly very watchable - just a shame about the adverts dragging it out a bit. Continues with the 2nd series on Sunday and I'll be watching.

I wish the BBC would take a leaf out of Ch4's book and put a large back catalogue online.

Another interesting Spooks thing.

Pop along to good old imdb.com
Look up Spooks and go to the television series.
At the top there are links to the seasons 1 - 7

Click on Season 7 and you'll see there is an air date of October 2008.
