So when will hard drive prices drop again?

Hi All,

Wondered whther anyone knew if the supply issues for hard drives is still on going?

Har drive prices are still very high, being at least twice what they were prior to the flooding in Thailand.

Have to buy a load of drives for a big NAS box soon, and just wanted to check the situation.

I read it's likely to be q4 until the factories are at full production again.

Thats certainly given SSD a leg up. Isn't it funny how natural disasters can cause technical evolution to be accelerated?

Similar thing happened in my work, after the Japanese earthquake and Tsunami, pro broadcast tape stock (DigiBeta, HDCAM etc. all mostly manufactured by Sony) was very thin on the ground, to the extent where people like the BBC were recycling tapes and most tape suppliers had nothing. It just meant that adoption of the memory card based camera's like P2 or XDCAM EX suddenly increased 100 fold.
