that sounds good but it's about time a lot more apps and games used the whole system to the max

i heard i5 are going to overclock better, is that any true? They also all seem to have unlcoekd multiplier, cheaper than i7, if it's gonna be 5 Ghz on air no prob, then it might be worth waiting :S
well as a single thread only uses one core at the moment, a limitation of the current hardware. This "bulldozer" tech eliminates that and allows the single thread to be spread accross all cores. Thus technically making the single threaded app much faster ( 4x with a quad, 8 with octo etc etc) than when compared with a quad or octo without this tech.
We still need a lot more thorough gaming reviews about these new processors i.e i7
And in my case an q9650 at 4.5Ghz is an even nicer place to be
Apart from gaining a few minutes in video encoding, the i7 has nothing to offer me yet.
I reckon I won't need/want to make to "upgrade" until 32nm and 6 core cpus are out and only then if there are programs/games which take advantage of them and I can see some gain.
However, I suspect the 6 core cpus will be £400+ and out of my budget so I can't see myself upgrading until well into 2011.
Pretty good temps since I upgraded my watercooling loop and lost the restrictive nb block (although plan to add one again since I need it to get to 5Ghz)
From memory, since I am at work, idle temps are 29C, prime is 51C and Intel burn test is 59C. Day to day gaming only gets to the high 40's. So I am happy with the temps tbh.
And that is a very lazy 4.5Ghz I as just copied somebody else's bios settings.I reckon that I should be able to tweak the voltages down some more since 4ghz was prime stable at 1.23v and 4.4Ghz needed only 1.35v but I am concetrating on hitting that 5ghz for now and scoring some hwbot points. Currently stuck at 4.83Ghz and banging my head against a brick wall. I'm sure I will crack it though as I also hit a brick wall at 4.635Ghz which took me 2 days to get past and it was only one little setting in the bios which freed up the progress to 4.8Ghz.
Yeah, not a problem. I'll post them up tonight when I get home.
Its still a rumor. But it would be cool if its true. Then I bet the people with the i7 now would want to cry if i5 can overclock 5ghz on air.
Given that 'I5' is not going to replace I7 but fit in underneath it in the mainstream i very much doubt Intel will allow the possibility of the above even if the silicon in question is capable. Intel would not want to cannablise its own sales in such a way
