Hi guys,

Following your advice I'm going to try migrating to ADSL24 from Plusnet with my ridiculously long 63db line of utter fail.

I am currently running a Thompson Speedtouch 580i router and will be replacing it with something more suitable with a Broadcom chipset.

In your opinion, which should I get? My budget is circa £50ish. Bought a Netgear DG834 the other day for an install elsewhere and it seemed fine - is this the best choice? Are there other, superior routers instead?

Thanks :)

The Netgear DG834 (or DG834G for wireless model) has always been good where I've put them into houses for the last 4 or 5 years. Certainly a safe bet.

I notice there is now a DG834G v5. It has a Connexant CPU not a Broadcom one.

I guess it's pretty important I get something with the Broadcom chipset, right?

I use ADSL2+ with Plusnet, have done since the start of the year. I use the DG834G v4 and it's been flawless, always synced at 24mbps (I'm only some 160m from the exchange though!)

I also have a 60dB broadband line, thats pretty poor, and I was connecting at around 1500kbps with a Belkin N1 modem/router. A change to my trusty Netgear DG834G V4 and I connect at around 1950kbps which is a nice 'upgrade' however the Netgear is poor on Wireless speed and coverage (Only G compared to N speed, and poor distance/signal strength)

Is there another Netgear or different brand, that can do N wireless speed, good wireless coverage (mimo?) but keep the nice performace of the Broadcom chipset???

I'm changing ISP's from very poor Nildram to Plusnet Pro! Hope its an upgrade (non LLU exchange, so not much choice?)

I do recomend to my customers the Netgear DG834GT but ocuk dont sell them and I cant link to competitors websites.

Have a DG834G v3 with a 53db line (5.8km line length from exchange) and always manage to sync @ 2900kbps or greater, giving a download speed of 2.3-2.8Mbps, have not come across any other router/modem than gives as good results, have tried the DG834GT (with different hacked firmwares), but was not able to match the DG834G...

With my own DG834GT and DG834PN I get better connection speeds with DGTeam firmware and have a little play with the SNR percentage. Not always a guarenteed way to speed up the line as it can decrease stability if you take it too far.

The DGTeam Firmware site looks interesting, but you have to be invited to register on the forum, and the firmware files do not mention what they modify :(
