Maybe you are right. I have heard that the yields are high but taking into account that Intel themselves said it would only account for 20% of their output in the last quarter, this doesn't leave that many floating about, what with Woodcrest being launched a month earlier. Even if plenty make their way to OCUK and the like on time, that is still 2 months.
Lets hope they are here sooner rather than later though. They look like fantastic chips.
The only issue i have is with people acting as if its only going to be a few weeks. Its not, its going to be a few months (unless Intel decides to move the launch forward again).
That's the thing. They didn't say 20% they said 40%...

PS: Launch is 23 July. I'll bet you £20 that retailers will have stock on that on that day, maybe give or take 3 days.

That's interesting

Some software like AutoCAD is multi-threaded but we use SolidWorks which isn't (at least SolidWorks 2004)

When we enabled Hyper-Threading on the PC it really hurt performance in the CAD software which is why we disabled it - I was using that rationale when I was looking at the Dual Core chips

Conroe should be something and it's taken some time coming - our 3GHz PC is a few years old and wasn't top of the line when purchased!

Yer... I looked on the CAD website and they said that it really doesnt support HT that well... I would keep it switched off... especially if you use Win 2k

Swap this for am2 not just yet

I'm actually tempted to go the AM2 route. But as a lowly 64 bit sempron. Whatever I get is pretty much an upgrade from my current XP 2600, and it would be a nice cheap way for me to switch to 64 bit, DDR2 and PCI-Express all in one go, especially if I go for the 570 ultra system (SLi at uni? I think not)

It would prove to be a relatively inexpensive upgrade, and would allow me to switch to a better processor quite easily, especially once the K8Ls are out.

Thats my attitude. I know conroe looks damn tempting, but I don't need that kind of power, and I can get away with having something far less powerful for a lot less money. And the AM2 semprons should still be pretty good clockers as well.

^^^

I know some people have, but they're the ones who don't use the forums. The 4000+s were showing as in stock a few days ago and now they're back to 1-3 days waiting.
