So who is still using a Steam Controller?

Just wondering how other people who have had these a while are getting on?

I've pretty much gone back to Xbox360 pad for most games now, despite the fact that the gyro on the Steam Controller is awesome for aim. The thing that's pushed me away is that I just can't get on with the right trackpad as a camera stick. I've tried but failed. :(

I think an Xbox360 pad with gyro would probably be ideal for me. I'm doing almost all of my gaming via Steam Link these days but really miss the accuracy of a mouse. Anyone using anything else? Doesn't the PS4 controller have a gyro? Will that work with PC?

Yes the DS4 has support through Steam, though I'm not sure on how good it is (don't own one) it should / will eventually work the same way. It sounds like they have big plans for the controller API: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7I4SiAiKqqk

I use a Steam controller, mainly for that right track pad mouse emulation. Honestly, I don't use it much since primarily prefer mouse and keyboard, but for those games I do I think it's fantastic.

Aha, thanks for that! I'll do some more digging. :)

Yep the pad is fine for mouse (eg: XCOM) but I've found it's not great for joystick look in games.

I'm planning on getting the PS4 v2 controller because of this support. Currently using a 360 controller.

Tried it once the first day it turned up and haven't touched it since. Hated it.

I felt that way at first but in all honesty if you're willing to give it a chance it can be a good option. It definitely makes a lot of games accessible that wouldn't otherwise be on controller.

What I'd like to have seen is a "pop and replace" system where the right trackpad is modular so you could pull it out and replace it with a control stick. I also dislike the fact that the four buttons are so far in.

Gyro fine aiming is simply amazing though and feels very natural. It's something I'd like to keep, even if I end up ditching the SC.

This seems like the best option for those that don't like the track pads. Unless you dislike the ergonomics of the DS4 it's going to be far better for steam users than an xbox controller until that's also supported.

I share your pain.

Bought one on release, tried it everyday for 3 months on a few different genres of games since I moved my PC to the living room TV (no more sitting at a desk for me, ever!) and I hated every dam minuites of it.

I now use. Razer Turret lapboard and a xb360 pad. And I couldn't be a happier gamer

Steam Controller (along with Steam Machines) is what happens when corporate hogs take over companies. Instead of asking "What do our clients need and how do we sell it to them?" they are asking "How can we squeeze more money out of our clients?". And when you are peddling software, the obvious answer to the second question is "sell them hardware".

I've tried it, it's **** so I don't nor will ever I own one.

Overtime I've started to think less of the Steam Controller. I used to use it whenever I needed a controller but now I'm back using a XBOX 360 controller more often then not for the simplicity of it just working.

With the Steam Controller there are so many poor configs shared on Steam now its often difficult to find one that works straight away. Highly rated configs just tend to be the ones that were uploaded first and have snowballed in popularity. I regularly find essential keybindings not mapped to the controller or basic features of the Steam controller like the Gyro or Touch Menu's completely ignored.

I resort to making most configs myself, this is time consuming and often because of my inexperience with a new game, the configs I start with need to be significantly altered for later on in games.

I wish more developers would post Official configs. And Valve would do something to filter out the majority of useless configs now overwhelming many games.

I had a look at these and had a think about getting one.

In the end, even though I own a PS4 I just went and purchased the Bluetooth X1 controller, and battery pack, and its about as good a controller as I could possibly want.

Built in headphone jack, Bluetooth and works with every single game that is game-pad compatible you could think of and works fine in Steam Big Picture Mode and even works for the MS store and MS XBox app.

Cause, doesn't work for games like Planet Coaster or Civ 6 lol but I've got a mouse and keyboard for those games.. : - )

Never got one, never wanted one, tired of steam trying to shove it down my facehole.

Well they do market on their store saying works great with steam controller in big picture mode, but I don't think you can blame Steam for trying to market the device.

I just ignore the big picture steam controller banner.

I've not tried one myself and don't think I'd get on with it, but I disagree with the rest of what you have written. Whether successful or not I'd say asking what their customers wanted/needed was exactly what they did, more and more people want to play their PC games in the living room and they wanted to design a controller that could be used for games that normally required a mouse. Also from what I remember they spent a lot of time getting gamers to test out the controllers and getting feedback, it was very much a case of listening to their customers.

Umm also, who are these "corporate hogs" who have taken over Valve? I thought it was still owned by the original founders.

I don't blame them for trying to market the device, but when they offer me the option to mark it as not interested and then decide that surely i MUST be interested because steam controller so they keep showing me it anyway. That's what annoys me.

On a brighter note of steam i am impressed with their refunds nowadays. They have something regarding customer satisfaction right for once!
