Proof there that the Japanese used to be able to build nice looking cars. Wonder why they stopped?

:p

That's an old Datsun 810. They are the four door sedan version of the 280Z!!! (the 240 was carby'd 2.4L, the 280 was fuel injected 2.8L, so it's actually a cross between the 240Z and the 280Z)

Quite nippy, and VERY good in the twisties. Also sound the dog's danglies due to that open throated inline six!!!

Really wish I could get another one. I had a 1977 version many years ago. Wish I still had it. Was a fantastic car.

Maybe not.... Looks like its a little smokey? Steamy?

Probably not been run properly in a few years, going by his description. It'll be fine after an Italian tune-up :)

I'm pretty sure if you ask the seller, you'll find out that the engine was cold and the air temp was a little cold on the day he took the pic. Remember, this is an early 70's car, they have the old style catalytic converters that emitted steam for the first 15 minutes or so of driving until they warmed up.

My truck and my Toyota still do that and they're running fine.

Why would he want to change the engine out? There's PLENTY of kits out there to enhance the existing one WAY past the 300BHP point for a lot cheaper and a lot less hassle than an engine swap!! :p

Go check with a little company called 8from6 or something like that....

Shame the seller is a liar. "There is no sign at all of the rust" he reckons, while on pictures practically all pannels are affected by rust to some degree (some really badly painted over) and seam is rotten through in some places. Nothing that a proper TLC wouldn't fix but if seller is lying about something that obvious, then you should presume everything else is just fairytale.

Cat? Really? On that age of car? 1974? I find that highly unlikely... However a cold start on choke with a carb engine, usually creates enough steam on a cold day to look like a traction engine..

No Datsuns ever had cats in the uk, so must be a foreign model if it has one...

Nissans from about J prefix plate had them tho...

Datsuns back then used to run on 2 star fuel...

:D

Yup my K plate nissan has a cat :(

To me, "oldskool" skyline is an R32, a modern decent skyline is an R34, that one in the OP is unfortunately an old rusting boat of a thing :(

Possibly look a lot better modded and clean, but that in the OP just foul.
