Bit the bullet and after what seemed an age of forum research, bought the 120gb Vertex 2.
For the wife.
......
She has the handed down skt 939 AMD 3800x2 pc, 64 bit, 4gb ram Win 7 with a nvidia 9800gt on a asus 32n deluxe mb (can't remember exact name). It has been creaking for a while now, but didn't want to go whole system route just yet which would need to do as case is rubbish, psu underpowered etc. Plan on getting another 2 years out of it yet.
She plays mainly LOTRO on a 24'' samsung at 1980x1200, and does the usual browsing and printing stuff. Nothing too major.
As we live a stone's throw from the exchange we have about 19.5 connection speed on a 20gb line

so level loading speed for LOTRO was a huge plus.
Granted that would be an expensive USP, but the system has just supernaturally sped up all round, even though the chip and board are the WEI bottlenecks now. Firing up windows, programs etc is virtually instantaneuos. Lovely.
Certainly my work pc just feels like an old dog now, and it is as big a change to her as when i got my first voodoo gfx card

That was a jaw/floor moment!
For my 1own personal 1st gen i7 rig, i`m waiting for the revos (or equivalent) to come down a bit before i splurge, given i haven't got sata3. I did originally build the rig with one of the 1st gen SSDs, but that drive lasted < a month, and when i RMA'd it, there was no replacement stock for it, it was next gen stuff only. Went for the refund as got fingers burnt!
So there we are, a potted history.
Are SSDs expensive? Yep. Is anything under 120gb too small? Yep. Are they too faffy? Yep. Do i want one? Yep. Am i/wife glad i got it instead of new shoes for the kiddiwinks? Yep.
Roll on mass production, VAT drop and plug and play. Then HDDs will be turning up in the next Indiana Jones adventure....
