So whos suffering (hayfever)

So who else is sharing my pain and is suffering big style this evening. Eyes and nose have been streaming for the last two hours.
I haven't known it this bad in the last couple of years.

No medical advice please.

I still haven't forgiven the people who band the heyfever tablets that could react with grapefruit and cause heart problems. They where he only ones that truly worked. if people can't follow simple advice of not eating grapefruit then that's their fault.

Oh and there goes an entire roll of bog roll. Far cheaper than boxes of tissues.

I empathise, up until I was 16 I was on about 4 different inhalers and ointments for hayfever.

My parents moved to the country and after a few months of hell the allergies just stopped, never had an issue since.

not me for once !

stocked up on hayfever/allergy tablets over winter !

chemistdirect was selling them off for pretty much pennys

After looking at that I'm pretty thankful that I'm only allergic to grass pollen.

I guess some poor sods get it right from March to August. I couldn't imagine that. It's utter hellish when it strikes (I was taken to hospital once by my school matron because my hayfever was so severe).

I'm just thankful it's confined to about 5 or 6 weeks for me.

used to get it for most of the year feb-october time. Had steroid injections as a kid to try and solve the problem. Eyes use to swell up and make me blind on a regular occurrence.

Thank god I'm not that bad any more, usually normal medicine is enough these days.

My hayfever seems to have started earlier than usual this year. I usually start around late May, early June. Happily, I have an old packet of hayfever tablets which work extremely well. Got enough for a few more weeks.

Mine seems to have stopped the past couple of years. Haven't had a single sniffle so far this year. Fingers crossed eh!

Mine started early-March this year. No idea why as that's generally too early for Hayfever. My old antihistamine prescription has been at best 50% effective this year, and wasn't working at all on Sunday, so I've changed prescription as of today. So far, so hopeful.

I also spent £150 on a Bionaire BAP1550 at the weekend and put it in the bedroom. Three days later I go in the bedroom and the hayfever stops within minutes. Go out again and it's achoo time. Already had to wash the pre-filter. You can have all the gadgets you want, but sorry OcUK, that's the best £150 I've spent in quite some time. :)

Yeah I'm thinking about get some sort of hepa filter. Would be good tio get an air con unit that had hepa filters.

I used to be very bad as a kid, had all the sprays and drops in the days before all these pills :(

I tried all the pills, zirtek, claryten (sp?) etc, found the best ones by far to be benedryl plus as they really help congestion whereas the others tend to be for taking before you get bad. 10 mins after taking one and I'm normally pretty sorted. Over the counter in a pharmacy, not the weaker standard Benedryl that's on the shelf :)

However the last few years I've not been getting it bad at all, only have to buy 1 or 2 boxes of pills to see me through.

Did have a bit of a twinge the other day but I had just been mowing the lawn :)

That's because they contain a decongestant. I was reading around about my new medication and discovered that antihistamines alone are not particularly effective at relieving congestion. Some decongestants can actually make things worse if overused so if you're having to use them for longer than a week I'd suggest a visit to your GP.

Oh, and when they say 'take with water', they do actually mean water. Fruit juice in particular (especially grapefruit juice) is known to interact with some medication (including the one I'm now on).
