So, Why does the monitor I want, not exist?

I really want a new monitor, cash waiting, yet I cannot for love nor money, find the panel I want, which is...

32 inch (non curved) screen.
IPS Panel
1440p
120-165Hz
Gsync

Every single one I've seen, falls down in at least one of those criteria

..It's not as if there is anything in that list that is cutting edge in late 2018, but no one offers it, why?

The closest I can get to it is the Asus (or Acer variant) PG279Q but is only a 27in panel which I don't particularly find all that immersive for desktop gaming, not that much better than my current 24in screen and even the Asus/Acer panel is over two yrs old in terms of screen technology, positively prehistoric in PC component terms.

Unless I've missed a monitor, Is there anything coming in 2019 which you guys might know of, that matches my criteria? or am I simply going to have to accept a 27in screen, which I know I will hate doing.

Oh, and I'm really not interested in ultra wide screens either.

I know the feeling. Given up waiting on OLED now and bought a 34” GSync IPS ultra widescreen. I love it!

Maybe in another 10years time OLED might actually be available for monitors.

Yup it’s a joke! Really want a 34” IPS HDR G-sync, 144hz, 1440p widescreen.

There’s 2 on the horizon from Acer and ASUS but I’ve heard their a VA panel.

Is it really that difficult???

Also what I don’t get is they show monitors off like 1 year or more before they’re released.

Very annoying

I personally cant go without a curved screen now im on 32". And to think, I never thought I would see the day i went curved at all. Go figure!

There is some hope for you, LG have a 31.5" 165hz IPS panel that's supposed to have gone into Production in Q4 this year.
Unfortunately no monitors announced yet that plan to use it, maybe hear something at CES shortly.

Is bad? It’s inbetween TN and IPS?

As far as VA panels go, it's very good. My only issue with it personally was the PPI. 1440p at 32" definitely looks softer than 1440p at 27"/34" UW. More so with typical Windows use, web browsing, text etc. You get used to it though, and obviously it's going to be more of a subjective thing. Regards the typical VA panel issues though, the 32GK850G does really well overall.

I had looked at it but it seems to be no longer available from any UK retailer (that I've heard of) and given just how shoddy modern monitors are I really don't want to risk buying from some site that has no decent UK based returns procedure.

Yup, agree with you on that one! I would never buy a monitor from somewhere that I didn't know I could return easily, given the high incidence of issues in pretty much every model these days.

21.6" at 1080p? Errr, HA and no. And how expensive are these going to be? Epically so, which is completely against the ethos of 1080p gaming at any size, nevermind 22" lol! And burn-in is a thing, regardless of what anyone says. This is going nowhere in a gaming sense.

For the 95% of the consumers who are cost-conscious that would be something sweet. For enthusiasts and forward-looking consumers there will be 21.6" at 2160p.

The 1080p model will NOT be cost conscious, not in the grand sense anyway. The vast majority of 1080p gamers are only at that res because it's cheap... so who will actualy buy a 22" 1080p monitor at x3-4 times the price of a bigger LCD one? I'm sure some will of course, but it's going to be niche.

The 4K OLED in the Asus ProArt range is going to be obscene, £2K+ easy.

And neither will resolve burn-in... ignoring that isn't forward-looking, it's blinkered short-sightsightedness.

This is a wild speculation on your part. Who, well those who want top image quality, obviously. I expect normal pricing.

£100 then? That's the going rate for a 22" monitor lol! It's going to be at least £400-500, but maybe that's what you consider normal. The problem is that this gets you a 24-27" 1440p G-Sync panel... albeit TN, but VERY close to IPS prices. Freesync is obviously cheaper for the budget conscious. Those who want top image quality are of course going to be interested... the problem is the size, which is going to rule it out for many.

I'm in the exact same boat - albeit different requirements.. but the monitor I want doesn't exist. I'm currently on the Acer XR34 and a BenQ 1080p144 secondary... The closest thing coming that matches my needs will be the LG 38GL950G, but even that is a compromise. I'd like it a little bigger (43" UW?) and obv full HDR1000... then maybe a FreeSync model, but I might just have to move to nVidia if there's only the G-Sync model with those specs.

Keep in mind PPI though. 43" 16:9 4K is worse PPI than 38" 3840x1600 UW (104 vs 110). Obviously viewing distance comes in to play, but all things being equal, it's something to consider. After all, it's all about sharpness/clarity of image at the end of the day (and factored in to that how easy/hard it is to run). 4K is going to be harder to push than 3840x1600.

I'm not sure about 43" UW, if you mean a 21:9 version in that size... if that's even a thing. I don't know what the next UW resolution size up from 38" would be? Nothing exists yet at least. The 38GL950G is a good 6-9 months away anyway, possibly a bit longer (every monitor seems prone to delays).

I think 38" is the current biggest UW but even 38 could go bigger ;) I'm just guessing the next size up would be around 43" since 29" => 34" (ok there's 35 too but I'll bunch that with 34s) => 38" => 43" seems appropriate.

But it not existing is the entire point - the monitor I want doesn't exist :p
