I have a similar spec (same card but an A64 2800+) and CoD2 runs ok at lower res. The 360 version will blow away what it will do on that machine. But if that's the only 360 game you are interested in I wouldn't say it was worth buying the console. Mind you there are some absolute quality games on their way (and a few beautys already out).

I think it'd be a better experience on a 360. I had both versions of the game and preferred the 360 version.

I'm not usre I'd buy a 360 just for the one game but you won't be dissapointed if you do buy one.

It'll run 'better' on the X360 since you would get D3D9 mode along with a smooth framerate.

However, your PC will run COD2 at a moderate detail level. Have you thought of not upgrading your PC at all and spending the money on an X360 instead? No more gaming on the PC will alleviate a lot of money that goes to PC upgrades.

i certainly wouldn`t just get 360 for Cod2.. i already have xbox.. just thinking to really appreciate 360 i`d need hd tv.. plasma is on the list but not till later in the year.. GRAW is another game on my have list.. so pc upgrade is going to cost.. may see if 360 can fit in a budget somewhere..

ERM, i *** go 360 for ghost recon!!!!!WHOA!!!!!Oblivion WHOA!!!!!!!!
all i can say is if oblivion looks the same on a 360 as it does on a 2K comp all i can say is :)

What display are you using with the PC? I have my 360 hooked up to a Dell 2005FPW (20" Wide TFT) and the picture is amazing in all its HD glory.

You shouldn't be buying it for COD2 but for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter ;) Currently the 360 game to beat.

I have a AMD 3400 and 6800GT with 2 gig ram and COD2 still doesn't run as smooth or as nice as my 360 version.

COD 2 is amazing I sold my PC (7800GT opty running2.8 2 gig ram etc etc...) after having my 360 for a few weeks, dont regret it for a second. Borght a big HDTV and a mac mini with the proceeds!

Similar dilemna, upgrade PC or get back in to console gaming. In the end I went for x360 COD2 and PGR3. GR:AW on pre-order . Very pleased so far.

gve the pad a chance for FPS, once you get used to it IMO more fun than mouse keyboard. a lot of people seem to agree with me 2

Agree 100%

I would definitely get the 360 even if it is just for COD2. I have both versions of the game and it is so, so much better on the 360 than our spec of pc's. I also agree that playing with the pad is no worse at all than playing with mouse and keyboard, in fact it works incredibly well. I am one level off completing the game and it has been just awesome, my most enjoyable gaming experience to date :)

My pc is almost identical spec to yours (9800 pro, XP2800+, 1GB), so we both know that to upgrade to a decent gaming rig is going to be expensive - new motherboard, new cpu, new gpu etc and at least twice the cost of a 360.

The 360 is great value for money and I don't know of anyone who has one who doesn't love it.

I've got COD2 for both the 360 and the PC, I can safely say that the PC version looks far better, yes, there's occasional slow down (nothing major) but the colours look really muted on the 360 version (which could be down to my VGA cable) and it's a pain to control with a joypad.

definetly down to your VGA cable, it looks a little better on the 360 on my HDTV. (not to mention its on a 27" screen) its well documented that on a proper screen it looks better on the xbox. there were some comparisons dragged up a few months back that clearly showed this.

I've been playing with various types of gamepads for over 15 years. Still prefer the keyboard and mouse for FPS games.

You get use to it. I got use to using a pad since the release of Halo on the Xbox.
I'll agree with this. You can get used to it. I've been using a pad since Halo too but I still prefer K+M for this type of game.
