Hi folks,

I said i'd get some benchmarks posted at the weekend when I installed my 7900GTX but I have only just got round to it (faulty hard drives delayed installation!)

Here is my brief system spec;

AMD X2 4400+ / DFI Lanparty Ultra-D / 2x1GB Crucial Ballistix 'Tracer'
Seagate 7200.9 16MB 250GB SATA2 / XFX 7900GTX

Using Nvidia 84.43's + Nothing is overclocked.

3DMARK 06 - 5,844
3DMARK 05 - 10,311
3DMARK 03 - 21,761
3DMARK 01 - 29,446

PCMARK 2005 - 5658
PCMARK 2002;

CPU - 7211
MEMORY - 10,865
HDD - 1571

I'll try disabling all the things in the background and trying,

For reference though, my X1900XT-X got

10632 3D MARKS in 3DMARK05 vs the 10311 3D MARKS I got with the 7900GTX

But in 3dmark 06

5735 (X1900XT-X) vs the 5844 3D MARKS of the 7900GTX

11391 @ 680 / 870 & CPU @ 2.5ghz (250x10 1.42v)

And

11609 @ 700 / 900 & CPU @ 2.5ghz (250x10 1.42v)

(Thats XXX edition speeds on gfx card, no artifacting @ temp at 51 degrees after 3dmark05!)

400 to go to get to 1200...! Hmmm what to do!

Not amazing, I got 11400 odd with a X1900XT.

Thats with an overclocked system though, that was my X1900XTX + system @ total stock :)

I am not sure whether I buy into the 'cherry picked cores' story, I mean, do we REALLY think manufacturers are gonna take all that time out to find them? Sales is all about getting things onto the shelves ASAP.
7900GTX's are very rare, so surely theyve just stuck whatever cores they can get on all the 7900GTX's?

If my 7900GTX didnt artifact @ 700/1900 and the temp stayed the same (49 degrees + 51 degrees after 3dmark05 run) does that mean its able to be safe at that?

I've got my suspicions...

I mean, sure, they can do that when they have the quantity available, but if you think how rare the GTX's are, and most people are just gonna buy the vanilla version, with some sales going for the faster options, but the 7900GTX vanilla is what you'd assume theyd want to produce most overall of.

In which case, some owners might end up with XXX edition capable chips?
