Soccer Aid

Ah just got in, was a good game and a decent atmosphere, had to laugh at the women in front of us with binoculars checking out jamie redknapps legs

thought the first half england played realy well, was a bit dissapointed with some of the legends, zola could have done better and it was a shame ginola went off injured.

anyone know how much they actually raised?

it was £15 to get in to old trafford iirc. so about 15x71500(approx attendance) = £1m+

then theres the people phoning in as well :)

i really enjoyed the match. it was great seeing maradonna and zola playing football again. maradonna's passing + vision was quality. zola still looks like he can play for a top club! hasn't lost any pace and technique at all :)

Was a great game, great atmosphere and loads of decent football. Shame i had the 5 hour drive home after though. :o

Got some good pics too.. I wonder what the final figure for the cash raised will be.

I must say i thoroughly enjoyed it.

My imagination was running riot throughout tho and i couldn`t help thinking if an ex-professional over 40`s league could get any sort of interest.

The Masters have a big following but 7 a side is crap. It bores me to tears.

Over 40`s, 11 a side, maybe friday nights, 35 mins each way?.

Tenner to get in etc.

Theres many over 40 playes who can still entertain im sure. Maybe even have it as some sort of pro-celebrity league.

Or perhaps my imagination is way out. :D

late posting....fairly harmless Saturday evening entertainment....was the booing of Maradonna as bad as it came over on the telly?
Although he will always have his reputation against England in one match, and he is Argentinian, I thought the booing of someone who has made a significant effort to play and attend a charitable event was rather small minded.....

Maybe him wanting a huge amount of money to turn up counted against him too.
Gossip was he was offered £100k but wanted £250k.He turned up,therefore i'm guessing he got somewhere in between. The others picked up c £10k each afaik

edit: although i'd hazard a guess that some of them either waived it or donated it to the fund

Funniest thing was him scoring from penalty spot coz of a hand ball. Enjoy that.

Also thought the game was boring. England vrs Rest of UK would have been better bit more bite in it.

Yeah but they needed some good players on the team playing against England ;)

might have had some that actually cared about playing the game though in the ROW team it was only really maradona.

At the end of the day though it was all about raising money and awareness. Would they have filled OT with some no-name also-rans from Wales, Scotland and Ireland with fire in their bellies for the game?

probably lets face it the Scotland retired pros team were clearly > England retired pro's team goin on he results 1-0 to celeb england vrs 6-2 to retired scotland players. :)

And you'd probs get people from home nations going not just England fans so would have had better imo atmosphere.

Mind you we could have taken some current NI players but then again they are too good aint they :P

Ah well Maradonna needed to be there to be honest and it was a private payment that paid him, not the money of the charity. Money that probably wouldn't have gone to them, he probably made more folk watch it and therefore more money taken in.

Here's some pix i took on the day..
