Socket 478 cpu work in a Socket 479 motherboard?

Right I've purchased a Jetway J9F2 Extreme mini-itx motherboard. Yes I know this is a bit obscure but hang in there please, you may be able to help me out!

I was told that a intel core 2 duo T5500 cpu would fit this board and have since been having trouble getting it working. I've been onto the motherboard manufacturer themselves and they say it 'should' work but the new stepping of the cpu doesn't as yet... not good!

However, whilst trawling through the documentation one more time I noticed that the board is compatible with Socket 479 cpu's. Now, when I checked the socket compatability of the T5500 it said Socket 478!! Gah!

So my question is very simple and I really hope someone here can give me a definitive answer.. Should a Socket 478 cpu still work on my motherboard or do I have to by a specific Socket 479 cpu like the Core 2 Duo Mobile T7100?

I've been looking at this,
http://reviews.ebay.com/Intel-apos-s-479-Socket-Explained-and-Compared-to-the-478_W0QQugidZ10000000000074521
Which seems to suggest that it doesn't however I can't believe the manufacturer themselves wouldn't have noticed straight away that I''d bought the wrong cpu!?

Please could some clever person here put me right on this subject!

You cannot use a S479 chip on a S478 board - as standard - but you can get an adapter. (like ASUS CT-479 Socket 479 to Socket 478 Converter Card for S479 Processor to S478 Motherboard (CT-479) )

You cannot use a S478 chip on a S479 board - and as far as I can tell there is no adapter for this way round.

The pin layouts are not the same, you will be getting volts where they are not expected etc. I hope you have not fried the CPU already.

Socket 479 is socket 478, just with a different pin layout. I don't think there is actually one more pin. So, to use a laptop CPU you need a board that supports mobile 478 which = 479. As far as I know, that means a Pentium M. This Wikipedia article is helpful:

It seems that all laptop Core Duos need Socket M or Socket P.

From the specs of that motherboard the T5500 should work fine. I'm not sure if the T7100 would work as it's an 800fsb cpu.
T5500, T5600, T7200, T7400 & T7600 should all work, Yonah chips should also work.
What happens when you try to boot with the T5500? Definately a working chip?

Edit: From the link it shows that it'll support 553/667FSB CPU's, no reason the T5500 wouldn't work.

That T5500 should defo work in that board.

There is a lot of confusion with that 478/9, basically that's Socket "M" 533/667MHz FSB Yonah's (T2x00) & Meroms (T5x00 & T7x00), utilising 915 & 945 northbridges
to run the newer core, 800MHz bus T7x00 & X9x00 series you need a Santa Rosa based platform i.e. a 965 northbridge based 478/9 board Socket "P" board

All good fun
