Socket 478 SFF?!

Hi. I've been planning to move my main rig over to a sff for a while now, and I've decided to take the plunge. The parts that I'd like to transfer over are:

P4 478 Northwood 2.8Ghz
BFG 6800GS (AGP)
2 x 512Mb cheap PC3200 :rolleyes:
DVD drive
And I'll probably get a 74Gb raptor to go with this.

It'll also need onboard 5.1 sound and 10/100 or wireless LAN. Also, if possible fairly good cooling, since I might have a go at OCing the P4, maybe to 3 or 3.2Ghz. I've had a look round, but I have no idea which boxes have a good reputation/large enough psu/whatever, or even if any that'll support these requirements exist. Help a noob in need? :(
 
Well i just bought a S478 shuttle as well, scoured ebay and decided on the SB51g.

Its a good solid performer, and OK its old and overclocking isnt wise, but it will run for days which is what i want it to do, quietly too! I picked mine up for £100 delivered, which i didnt think was too bad.

scott.homes - sounds good, just wondering, what Gfx card have you got in there? I'm worried that the power supply in an older sff wouldn't cope with the demands of a newer card.

RandomTom, I can't seem to find that particular model anywhere.. google had about 100 results
 
Its been over 2 1/2 years when I bought my SB61G2 and it still amazes me.
It's based around the i865 chipset and has 5.1 sound, SATA interface and an onboard gfx card with an AGP and a PCI to suit an enthusiast's needs.

I have replaced the chipset fan with a passive heatsink and is quiet enough.
Hasn't failed me still. Running a PIV 2.6HT (Northwood) with 1Gb Crucial, Matrox G550 (used to have an ATi 9800), a 200Gb SATA Seagate and a NEC 3540. It's even fully supported by MacOS! ;)

Thanks for that. Think I might have to go for one of them then :D

I had a look on shuttle's website; they say, and I quote - 'The power supply unit can be counted on to deliver sufficient power without any difficulties. You need only consider whether the video card will fit in the system.'

So that's alright then. Thanks again for the help people
