Socket 754 cpu recommendations

NOTE: Socket 754 A64's will also be axed soon if not the same time as Socket 939 ones. Only 754's that will be left FOR AWHILE will be Sempron's :p

& lets not forget that Socket 939 is still king even against the new AM2 (until maybe end of July - mainstream) :D

Maybe so, but the arguement is that everyone was saying drop 754 and go over to 939. Why? There is very little advantage to be had from dual channel memory. You would still be buying into a dead end socket. You would have to change everything for a future upgrade, so it is much better to stay with 754 until it becomes significantly slower performance wise. 939 Has dual core cpu's but hardly any games are coded for dual core and none of the ones i have are. I don't multi task or do any editing or encoding. This is purely a games machine and is ranked 7th in the single core cpu and 26th in the combined 3dmark06 comp. Thats way above a lot of 939 rigs that should be, by rights, better than my rig. :D

I have a happy ending to my story, I thought it mught be the heatsink that was the problem so I bought a Swiftech mcx 6400 from a nice bloke on members market and my temps are back to normal :)
I can go back to 240x11 now if I want or 240x10 if I want to stay under 40c at load.
When I started the thread I thought it was the chip that was at fault...

Glad to hear that everything worked out well for you in the end :)

Under 40 on load is not bad at all. My 3700 idles at 38-39, mind you thats only using the stock cooler.
