Hi,
Just made a system with a gigabite ga-k8ne motherboard.(socket754)

In the manual it says that you can only have two memory sticks running at ddr 400.
So I have my ddr400 memory in dimm 1 & 2 but inthe bios it says that the memory is running at 333.

Do I have to manually change the memory or bios setings to get it to run at ddr 400?

Anyone help?

I think this may be right actually, many 754 boards including my Asus K8N only support a single stick at DDR400. Once you add a second stick the speed drops to DDR333. I think it may be something do do with the architecture of socket 754 only supporting single channel memory.

If you take out the second stick of memory I think you will notice that the speed increases to DDR400.

Hope this helps.

You should be able to make 2 sticks run at 400 Mhz on socket 754 without issue.

I agree, I have a socket 754 DFI Lanparty board and I was running 2 sticks of OCz PC4000 512 MB way beyond the DDR500 mark. 754 doesn't do dual channel though, that's the only real issue with it I think.

Currently upgrading to C2D though :)

On the bios it also says that my processor is at 200 mhz if this helps.

What processor is it? Could it just be the 200 x the multiplier (of say 9 or something) to give total speed 1.8GHz for example

No problems here with 2x1Gb sticks of pc3200. Try going into the bios and changing the memory speed from auto to 200 (ddr 400). Thats what i had to do otherwise they defaulted to 133 and awful timings.

No, you should'nt have to. As i said i had to do the same thing when i put in both of my 1Gb sticks. 1 Stick auto detects at ddr400 but when i put the other in it changes to ddr333. It's just an easy case of going into the bios and changing it. I usually set it manually anyway as i like to tweak the memory timings.

This is a similar issue to some 939 Boards defaulting RAM to 333 too!

Both my NEO2 and NEO4 ( MSI ) default all my RAM to 200 ( Many sticks are way over that, but they come up as 200 and if I use 4 instead of 2 sticks, they all come up as 333

This is normal, its the RAM controler in the CPU it seems ( Not rally gicen much thought to be honest, its what many say anyway )

It does not affect the speed of the system, nor the general running / reliability of it either.

Besides, I overclock all my PCs, so its one less job to do anyway... Adjusting the RAM speed.

My DFI Lanparty however does not do this. Thats a 754 system, and if I use 1,2 or 3 sticks ( It dont have 4 slots, just the 3 ) they always default to 400, but again, to clock it, I knock my RAM to 100 cos the CPU and board both clock like hell ( Newcastle thats had 2.9Ghz - currently 2.4 but only cos I was comparing it with my ClawHammer ( Also at 2.4 ) )

But my Gigabyte 754 systems do indeed default to 333

I'm still having the exact same problem with my Asus K8N-E.

If I go into the BIOS and manually change the speed to DDR400 the system still defaults to DDR333 when it boots.

According to the motherboard manual the board can only support a single stick of memory at DDR400. With two sticks it can only support DDR333.

Its very frustrating. If anyone knows a way around this I'd be very grateful :)
